If Microsoft PC Manager’s Deep Cleanup displays “Unable to proceed. Please go back and retry,” first repair the app in Windows Settings, then try Deep Cleanup again. If it still fails, use Windows’ Temporary files or Storage Sense tools to clean files, and consider restarting PCManager Service (Store) as a community-documented troubleshooting step.
Repair PC Manager first
A Microsoft External Staff moderator recommended repairing the app in response to this exact error report, posted June 25, 2026. The report does not establish one cause that applies to every occurrence.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select Microsoft PC Manager, then open Advanced options.
- Choose Repair.
- Open PC Manager and try Deep Cleanup again.
Repair is the moderator’s suggested first step. The reply notes that cleanup components or cached data can sometimes be involved, but that possibility is not a confirmed diagnosis for every PC.
Clean temporary files with Windows
If Deep Cleanup remains unavailable, Windows has built-in cleanup options. These can remove temporary files, but using them does not necessarily repair PC Manager’s Deep Cleanup feature.

Remove selected Temporary files
- Open Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files.
- Review the listed categories and select only the items you intend to remove.
- Choose Remove files.
Run Storage Sense
Alternatively, turn on Storage Sense in Settings > System > Storage, then choose Run Storage Sense now. Review Windows’ settings before running it so you understand which files it may clean.
Try restarting PCManager Service (Store)
A volunteer-maintained PC Manager troubleshooting page recommends restarting the app’s service for an “Unable To Proceed” error. This is community documentation, not an official Microsoft support instruction.

- Press Windows key + R, enter
services.msc, and press Enter. - In the Services window, locate PCManager Service (Store).
- If it is running, choose Restart. If it is stopped, choose Start.
- Retry Deep Cleanup.
Record details if the error continues
Before seeking further help, note the Windows version and build, the PC Manager version, and when the message appears: immediately, or after scanning begins. These are details requested by the Microsoft moderator in the exact-error discussion and can help distinguish a failure to start from one that occurs during a scan.
Secondary troubleshooting guidance also suggests checking for pending Windows or PC Manager updates, closing running browsers and other apps, trying to launch PC Manager as an administrator, and checking whether the app was moved to another drive. These are checks to consider, not established causes of this particular error.

Escalate if the problem remains
The community troubleshooting page advises collecting logs, dump files, screenshots, and the system version, then following its log-submission instructions. Include the timing of the error and the version details above so anyone investigating can see what happens and on which setup. Do not assume that restarting the service or collecting logs will resolve the issue; the available guidance does not establish a universal fix.

Microsoft’s product information lists PC Manager as compatible with Windows 10 version 19042.0 and above, and Windows 11. The June 2026 error report is categorized as Windows 11 but does not state its Windows build or PC Manager version, so it does not show whether compatibility explains that user’s problem.
