AADSTS700003 means the Microsoft Entra device identity used during sign-in cannot be found in your organization’s tenant. Ask your tenant administrator to investigate the deletion, then use the recovery steps that match the device’s registration state: registered, joined, or hybrid joined. The procedures are different, so don’t run one as a universal fix.
What AADSTS700003 means
Microsoft Entra ID returns this error when an application sign-in refers to a device object that is missing from the tenant. The message may read “Your organization has deleted this device” or “Device object was not found in the tenant ‘
Device registration or joining creates an identity that can be used for device-based Conditional Access and mobile device management. On Windows 10 and 11, the device identity also relates to the Primary Refresh Token (PRT) used for single sign-on. If the directory object is deleted or disabled outside the device, sign-in can be affected. Microsoft lists possible causes including a user or administrator disabling or deleting the device, and, for hybrid-joined devices, a change to synchronization scope or disabling the on-premises computer account. Microsoft’s device-management FAQ explains these scenarios.

Ask an administrator to investigate the deletion
Contact the administrator for the Microsoft Entra tenant that owns the device identity. Ask them to check when and why the device object was removed before you change the endpoint. Microsoft says the Entra audit log records a “Delete device” activity type, which can help identify the event. An administrator can also confirm the device’s actual registration or join state so you choose the matching recovery path.

Choose the fix for the device’s registration state
Use the procedure for the affected device’s state. The three paths below are not interchangeable.
| Device state | Platform covered by Microsoft’s steps | Recovery action |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Entra registered | Windows 10/11, iOS, Android, or macOS | Disconnect or unregister the work account/device, then register it again |
| Microsoft Entra joined | Windows | Run dsregcmd /forcerecovery in elevated PowerShell and sign in |
| Microsoft Entra hybrid joined | Windows | Run dsregcmd /leave, reboot, then sign in with domain credentials |
Microsoft Entra registered: disconnect or unregister, then register again
- Windows 10/11: Open Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School, select the work or school account, and choose Disconnect. Then register the device with Microsoft Entra ID again.
- iOS or Android: In Microsoft Authenticator, open Settings > Device Registration > Unregister device, then register the device again.
- macOS: Use Microsoft Intune Company Portal to unenroll the device and remove its registration, then register it again.
Microsoft Entra joined: recover the Windows device
- On the Windows device, open PowerShell as an administrator.
- Run
dsregcmd /forcerecovery. - When prompted, select Sign in and authenticate with the Microsoft Entra account.
Microsoft Entra hybrid joined: leave and rejoin through sign-in
- On the Windows device, open PowerShell as an administrator.
- Run
dsregcmd /leave. - Reboot the device, then sign in with domain credentials.
If the error follows you to another device
A Microsoft Learn Q&A post describes one web-account RDP case in which a stale registration on the initiating client was involved even though the target virtual machine was healthy. That is an individual report, not a general diagnosis; it does not replace checking the device’s state and following Microsoft’s corresponding procedure. If the error appears across devices, give the administrator the exact sign-in scenario and affected device details so they can investigate the relevant identity and audit events. Read the reported web-account RDP case.
