Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If a Selenium screenshot is cut off, first check what it captures: a driver screenshot is not guaranteed to include the whole document. If content is missing because the page has not finished rendering, wait for the specific content—not just navigation—before taking the screenshot. For full-page capture, use a browser-specific API only when the active driver supports it.
Identify what the screenshot is missing
Different symptoms point to different fixes:
- Content below the viewport is absent: the screenshot may show only the current browsing context rather than the full document. Use a supported full-page method.
- A particular component is clipped: capture that element instead of the whole driver window.
- The screenshot is blank or shows old content: wait for the application to reach the state you need before capturing.
- The image has unexpected dimensions: check the browser window or viewport size and confirm the screenshot scope.
Selenium documents separate driver and element screenshot patterns. The target matters as much as the timing: see the Selenium documentation on working with windows and tabs and the Java API for HasFullPageScreenshot.
Choose a screenshot method that matches the required scope
Capture the current driver context
The standard Java driver screenshot call is:
File screenshot = ((TakesScreenshot) driver)
.getScreenshotAs(OutputType.FILE);
This requests a screenshot from the current driver context. Do not assume it always produces a stitched image of the entire document; behavior depends on the browser and driver. Selenium’s API documents the general RemoteWebDriver screenshot interface.
Capture one element
When the issue is a cropped chart, table, or component, locate it and request its screenshot rather than changing the driver-level capture:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
WebElement target = driver.findElement(By.cssSelector(".report-chart"));
File screenshot = target.getScreenshotAs(OutputType.FILE);
Replace .report-chart with a selector for the element you need. This is an element screenshot, not a full-page capture.
Capture a full page with the documented Firefox API
Selenium’s Java API documents FirefoxDriver as implementing HasFullPageScreenshot. Its full-page method is:

File screenshot = ((HasFullPageScreenshot) driver)
.getFullPageScreenshotAs(OutputType.FILE);
This is a Firefox-specific route, not a general promise for Chrome or every remote/grid setup. Use it only when the actual driver supports the interface and the execution environment supports the command. Check the FirefoxDriver API and Selenium’s Firefox-specific functionality documentation. Selenium’s Firefox documentation notes that Selenium 4 requires Firefox 78 or newer and recommends a current geckodriver; verify compatibility against the versions in your own setup.
Wait for the page content you need
A navigation completing does not prove that a JavaScript application has finished rendering the content to capture. Selenium’s Waiting Strategies documentation explains that readyState concerns assets defined in the HTML, while JavaScript can continue changing the page. Wait for a meaningful application condition, such as visibility of the target element or appearance of a final-state marker.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
For example, with Selenium 4 Java and a page-specific selector:
WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, Duration.ofSeconds(15));
WebElement target = wait.until(
ExpectedConditions.visibilityOfElementLocated(By.cssSelector(".report-chart")));
File screenshot = target.getScreenshotAs(OutputType.FILE);
Use the same kind of explicit wait before a driver-level or full-page screenshot when that is the required scope. Replace the selector and timeout with values appropriate to your application. Avoid treating a fixed sleep as a reliable substitute for confirming the desired state.

Handle lazy-loaded and scroll-triggered content separately
If the page loads content only when it is scrolled into view, an initial navigation wait may not trigger that loading. Determine whether the content sits in the main document or a nested scrollable region, then scroll through the relevant area and wait for the application-specific loaded state before capture. This is a diagnostic step, not a universal Selenium guarantee for lazy loading or full-page stitching; behavior varies by page and browser.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Page-load strategy changes timing, not screenshot scope
Selenium’s browser options describe three page-load strategies: normal waits for the complete state, eager waits for the interactive/DOMContentLoaded state, and none does not block navigation. These choices affect when navigation returns; none turns a viewport screenshot into a full-page one. With eager or none, explicitly wait for the content needed. See Selenium Browser Options.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot ends at the viewport bottom | The driver screenshot captures the current context, not necessarily the whole document. | Use a documented full-page API supported by the browser and driver, or capture the relevant element. |
ClassCastException for HasFullPageScreenshot |
The active driver object does not implement that Firefox-specific interface. | Confirm the actual browser and driver. Do not cast a Chrome or unsupported remote driver to the Firefox interface. |
| Full-page method is unavailable in a remote session | The remote execution setup may not expose the browser-specific command. | Check the Selenium, browser, driver, and grid/remote versions and capabilities. The API documentation does not establish support for every remote configuration. |
| Screenshot is blank, stale, or missing a chart | Capture ran before asynchronous content appeared. | Wait for visibility of the target or a page-specific completion marker before capturing. |
| Lower-page content is absent despite waiting | The page may load it only after scrolling, possibly inside a nested scroll container. | Inspect the page behavior, scroll the relevant region if required, and wait for its loaded state. |
| Navigation returns sooner than expected | The session may use eager or none page-load strategy. |
Keep the strategy if appropriate, but add an explicit wait for the content you need. |
When a documented method is missing or behaves differently, record the Selenium, browser, driver, and local-versus-remote versions. The available API documentation does not verify every version combination, grid implementation, or long-page behavior.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to get a website screenshot without configuring Selenium and a browser, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request API. Its consent handling accepts cookie/consent banners and removes known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with verdict and billing details in response headers. It also has an MCP server for AI agents and includes 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
For the API parameters and other capture options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
