To fix Android PC game streaming, first locate where the fault occurs: controller recognition, host or game mapping, the network path, or video processing. Check each part of the path—controller → Android → streaming app → host or virtual controller → game—and change one thing at a time. A supported controller listing is a useful starting point, but it does not guarantee that every controller, Android device, and app combination will work.
Confirm your app, host, and Android setup
Check the requirements for the streaming app you use rather than applying one app’s rules to another. For local Steam Link setup, Valve says the Android device and Steam host should be on the same network. Its Android support page specifies Android 5.0 or newer and recommends a 5 GHz wireless router: Steam Link for Android.
Moonlight can stream from a PC running NVIDIA GeForce Experience (NVIDIA GPUs) or Sunshine (listed for all GPUs). Follow Moonlight’s relevant pairing steps; Steam Link’s Android requirements are not universal requirements for Moonlight. See the Moonlight setup guide and Moonlight Android listing.
Trace controller input from Android to the game
Test the same controller at each stage. If Android does not recognize it, the problem is below the streaming app. If Android recognizes it but the app does not respond, check the app’s controller support and connection. If the app shows input but the game does not, investigate host-side controller handling and game mapping.

- Check Android recognition. Confirm the controller pairs or connects to the Android device and that Android registers button or stick input. If possible, compare Bluetooth with a wired connection supported by your device; this comparison helps isolate the connection, but does not establish that Bluetooth is always the cause.
- Check client support. Valve’s Android Steam Link page names Steam Controller, Xbox One S Controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 or newer, Razer Kishi, and Raiju Mobile. It also notes that other devices may work. Moonlight lists PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Android gamepads. These lists are not guarantees for every model or device combination: Valve’s Steam Link page and Moonlight’s Android listing.
- Check host and game mapping. If input reaches Steam but a game launched through Sunshine does not receive it, Sunshine’s troubleshooting documentation suggests checking Steam controller support configuration, including trying only generic controller support, and checking whether another controller connected to the host takes precedence. Treat these as targeted tests for this setup, not universal fixes: Sunshine troubleshooting documentation, version 2026.214.30634.
Moonlight warns that some controllers can have latency or disconnection issues on Android. Test the specific controller on the specific Android device rather than assuming that support for its controller family settles the question; see the Moonlight setup guide.
Check Wi-Fi stability before changing hardware
Headline bandwidth alone does not show whether a stream will be responsive. Sunshine’s troubleshooting documentation says, “For real-time game streaming the most important characteristic of the network path between server and client is not pure bandwidth but rather stability and consistency (low latency with low variance, minimal or no packet loss).” At 60 fps, that guide describes stream bursts every 16 ms, so inconsistent delivery can matter even when a speed test looks adequate. - Use the streaming overlay if available. Steam says its Remote Play performance overlay can help determine whether a problem is network-related. Use it while reproducing the same stutter or delay: Steam Remote Play network settings.
- Reduce wireless contention. Steam notes that simultaneous wireless traffic between the PC, router, and client can interfere with streaming. Pause large transfers or other heavy wireless activity as a diagnostic test, then check whether the symptom changes: Steam Remote Play network settings.
- Improve the link deliberately. Moonlight recommends a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection for the Android client and, where possible, Ethernet from the PC to the router. This separates the host’s wireless link from the Android device’s Wi-Fi connection: Moonlight Android listing.
- Consider network restrictions. Public or corporate Wi-Fi may block streaming applications, and firewall rules can prevent local discovery or streaming. Moonlight documents these setup issues in its setup guide.
Run a technical network check if the basic tests are inconclusive
Sunshine documents an iPerf3 reverse UDP test and advises watching packet loss and jitter. Its version 2026.214.30634 troubleshooting guide calls packet loss below 5% and jitter below 1 ms ideal. Treat those numbers as guidance in that documentation, not universal pass/fail limits or promises of smooth play across games, Wi-Fi environments, and clients: Sunshine troubleshooting documentation.

A slow or uneven response does not automatically mean Wi-Fi is the cause. Moonlight explains that measured network latency includes the input’s trip to the host and the resulting audio and video trip back to the client. - If the overlay or logs point to the network, focus on Wi-Fi consistency, interference, host Ethernet, packet loss, and jitter.
- If network indicators are not the main issue, reduce stream load as a diagnostic step and compare the result under the same game and network conditions.
- Change one variable at a time and repeat the same action in-game. That makes it easier to tell whether a controller connection, network adjustment, or stream setting changed the symptom.
The available documentation does not establish a universal performance winner between Steam Link and Moonlight on Android. A result from one device, network, host, and game should not be generalized to all setups.
