In Playwright, request a full-page screenshot explicitly: await page.screenshot({ path: 'full-page.png', fullPage: true });. If the image still ends early, check the page’s actual document height, any clip option, image scaling, and whether the content was present when the screenshot ran. The right diagnosis depends on the page and setup; a 2022 report about Playwright 1.20.2 is not proof of a current general defect.
Capture the full scrollable page
Playwright’s screenshot guide describes a full-page capture as a screenshot of the full scrollable page, as if it were displayed on a very tall screen. In JavaScript, use fullPage: true; the option defaults to false.

Check what was actually captured
Before changing browser settings, record enough detail to reproduce the result. A short image can mean the capture was bounded, the page had not produced all its content, or the image’s pixel dimensions are being interpreted incorrectly. Do not assume that setting fullPage alone proves the page was fully rendered.

- Record the URL and the page state, including whether the page was logged in or had any relevant overlays.
- Record the Playwright version, browser engine, and configured viewport.
- Keep the screenshot options used, especially
fullPage,clip, andscale. - Inspect the output image’s pixel dimensions and compare them with the document’s expected extent, not just the visible viewport.
When comparing two captures, hold the URL, page state, Playwright version, engine, viewport, screenshot options, and output scale constant. Otherwise, a difference in image height may not identify the cause of clipping.
Inspect screenshot options that can bound or resize output
Check for a clipping rectangle
The API’s clip option defines a rectangle using x, y, width, and height. If it is present, inspect whether that rectangle is restricting the area you expect to capture. For an initial diagnosis, try a capture without a custom clip while retaining fullPage: true.

Distinguish CSS pixels from image pixels
The scale option controls output resolution: "css" produces one image pixel per CSS pixel, while "device" produces one pixel per device pixel. On a high-DPI setup, device scaling can make an image’s pixel dimensions larger than the page dimensions expressed in CSS pixels. That is a size difference, not by itself evidence that the page was clipped.
Check format-specific settings
The API documents quality for JPEG and WebP rather than PNG. If you are diagnosing a shortened image, focus first on the capture region and page content; quality is an encoding setting, not the full-page switch.

Verify content that appears after scrolling or loading
Some pages do not have all their content ready at the moment the screenshot is taken. Reproduce the issue on the exact page and check whether the supposedly missing content exists in the page before capture, including content that appears only after scrolling or additional loading. If it is absent at capture time, investigate that page’s loading behavior and timing rather than treating the result as proof that Playwright’s full-page option failed. The available documentation does not establish one universal lazy-loading remedy.
For a useful comparison, capture the same page state with the same viewport and settings after confirming that the content in question is present. Keep any page-specific waiting or scrolling steps explicit in your reproduction so you can tell whether the change affected page readiness or screenshot bounds.

Assess the viewport issue report cautiously
Playwright issue #13339 reports a screenshot being cut off with an explicitly configured viewport on Linux using Playwright 1.20.2. It was opened on April 6, 2022. Treat it as a reproduction clue, not evidence that viewport configuration causes clipping generally or that the same behavior persists in current Playwright versions.
If your setup resembles that report, build a minimal reproduction on your installed version and compare the configured viewport with the default viewport. Keep the URL, page state, browser engine, and screenshot options the same. This helps establish whether the result is tied to that specific setup rather than a general rule.
