If your Fitbit Versa 2 has a black screen, place it in its Versa 2 charging cradle, connect the charger to a wall outlet, and leave it charging for a full hour. A fully drained battery may take several minutes to show anything. Then check the charging contacts and, with the watch still connected, hold its side button for 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears. This restart does not erase your fitness data.
1. Charge the Versa 2 in its correct cradle

Place the watch in the Versa 2 charging cradle and align the cradle’s pins with the gold contacts on the back of the watch. The Versa 2 cable is model-specific; it does not work with the original Versa or Versa Lite. See Google’s charging instructions.

Connect the charger to a standard wall outlet and leave the watch charging for 60 minutes. For a totally black screen, Google recommends using a wall outlet rather than a computer. A depleted battery may remain blank for several minutes after charging begins. These steps follow Google’s guidance for a Versa 2 that will not charge and its black-screen troubleshooting table.

2. Check the charger pins and watch contacts
Remove the watch from the cradle and gently press each charger pin with a finger. Each should spring back immediately. If a pin stays pushed in or feels stuck, Google says the cable may need replacement. If you need another cable, choose one explicitly identified as compatible with Versa 2; a replacement cable is not proof that the watch itself is working properly.

Dirty contacts can also interfere with charging. Google’s screen troubleshooting guidance recommends cleaning the watch contacts with a toothbrush and fresh water, then drying them with a cloth or tissue. It advises cleaning the cable pins carefully with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, and checking that no cotton remains. Its charging guidance also suggests a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol for the contacts and pins; for stubborn buildup on the watch’s gold contacts, it describes using a pencil eraser and clearing away the debris before reconnecting. Do not scrape the contacts with metal: that can damage their plating and lead to corrosion.
3. Restart the watch while it is charging
Keep the Versa 2 connected to its charger. Press and hold its single physical side button for 10 seconds, then release it when the Fitbit logo appears. The official restart instructions give this procedure for Versa 2, and the Versa 2 user manual confirms it. A restart reboots the watch without deleting data.

Do not use a two-button procedure intended for other Versa models. Also, do not insert anything into the watch’s small holes in an attempt to restart it; the manual warns that doing so can damage the device.
4. Contact support if it remains blank
If an hour of charging, careful contact cleaning, and the restart do not bring the screen back, contact Google/Fitbit Customer Support. For a persistent blank screen, Google recommends having the Fitbit model and serial number ready. The troubleshooting steps cannot establish whether a particular watch has a failed battery, charger, display, or another hardware problem.

Do not confuse restart with factory reset
A restart and a factory reset are different actions. The restart above preserves data. Google says a factory reset erases device data and should be a last resort; it is not an early fix for a black screen. If a reset becomes relevant, consult the Versa 2 manual rather than attempting one while the watch is unresponsive.
