For a one-time move, export your Firefox bookmarks as an HTML file on the old computer, transfer that file, then import it on the new computer. If you want bookmarks to stay in sync across signed-in devices, use Firefox Sync with the same Mozilla account on both computers and make sure Bookmarks is selected.
Choose HTML transfer or Firefox Sync

Transfer bookmarks with an HTML file
Export from the old computer
- Open Firefox and select Menu > Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks to open the Library.
- In the Library, select Import and Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML….
- Choose a location you can find easily and save the file. Firefox names it
bookmarks.htmlby default.
Move the file to the new computer
Make the saved HTML file available on the new computer using any transfer method you have available. A USB flash drive is one option, but Firefox does not require one; you can use another file-transfer method instead.
Import on the new computer
- Open Firefox’s Library using Menu > Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks.
- Select Import and Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML….
- Choose the transferred
bookmarks.htmlfile and complete the import.
Firefox adds the imported bookmarks to the existing set rather than replacing it, so duplicates are possible. If you want a recovery point before combining the sets, use Import and Backup > Backup… in the Library first. For Mozilla’s import details, see Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.

Transfer bookmarks with Firefox Sync
- On the old computer, sign in to the Mozilla account whose Firefox data you want to sync.
- Open Sync settings and confirm that Bookmarks is selected for synchronization.
- On the new computer, sign in to that same account. The data types enabled for Sync synchronize automatically.
Using a different or newly created account will not bring over data from the old account. Sync also cannot restore bookmarks that were never synchronized; if the old computer is unavailable or its unsynced bookmarks are missing, you may need the old Firefox profile or another backup. Choose the right bookmark file
Use HTML when moving bookmarks to another computer: it is the documented export format for transferring them. A JSON-format bookmark backup serves a different purpose—restoring bookmarks in Firefox—rather than importing them through the HTML transfer workflow. Mozilla distinguishes these options in its export and backup guidance.

If bookmarks seem to be missing
- Look in the Bookmarks Menu: imported bookmarks are added there, so they may not appear immediately on the toolbar.
- Show the toolbar if needed: if you expect bookmarks on the toolbar, use Firefox’s toolbar customization to enable the Bookmarks Toolbar.
- Check for duplicates: importing adds to the existing collection; it does not replace it.
- For Sync, check the account and selection: confirm both computers use the same Mozilla account and that Bookmarks is enabled. Unsynced bookmarks require a separate recovery source.
