To find a graphics card BIOS version (also called its VBIOS or Video BIOS), use the method supported by your GPU: NVIDIA’s nvidia-smi query, Intel’s graphics driver report, or AMD SMI where supported. The field identifies graphics firmware, not the graphics driver version.
What the graphics card BIOS version identifies
A video BIOS, or VBIOS, is firmware associated with a graphics card or integrated graphics controller. The driver version is separate: it identifies the software that lets the operating system communicate with the graphics hardware. Intel’s Video BIOS FAQ, last reviewed February 12, 2025, describes the term and the Intel-specific labels you may see.
Find the VBIOS version for your GPU
Choose the vendor section matching the graphics adapter you want to inspect. If a computer has more than one GPU, check the adapter name or identifier in the output so you do not mistake one card’s value for another’s.

Run:
nvidia-smi --query-gpu=gpu_name,gpu_bus_id,vbios_version --format=csv -
Read the
vbios_versioncolumn. Usegpu_nameandgpu_bus_idto match each result to its adapter.
NVIDIA documents this query in its useful nvidia-smi queries. Its nvidia-smi documentation describes support for standard driver-supported Linux distributions and 64-bit Windows, while noting that available information varies by device and may be limited for some GeForce GPUs. If the query or field is unavailable on your system, consult the manufacturer’s documentation or support for your exact GPU and computer.
NVIDIA Control Panel’s System Information page is another place to inspect installed NVIDIA hardware and driver details. NVIDIA’s Control Panel help page does not specifically guarantee that this screen displays a VBIOS version, so treat it as a hardware-information check rather than a reliable VBIOS lookup.

Intel: check the graphics driver report
-
Open the Intel graphics control panel installed on your system.
-
For the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel directions for Windows 10 and newer versions, select Options and Support, then Information Center.
-
Look for the GOP value. Intel describes GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) in that interface as equivalent to the Video BIOS version. Older panel versions may show a field labeled Video BIOS Version instead.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Intel’s instructions cover legacy and newer graphics products, so the available label and path depend on the panel installed on your computer.
AMD: use AMD SMI when supported
AMD SMI’s CLI guide documents --vbios as an option for static GPU information. It returns video BIOS information “if available.” The guide supports selecting a GPU by index, bus-device-function address, or UUID; use the selector format documented for your installed AMD SMI version. See AMD’s AMD SMI CLI Tool Usage Guide, release 8.5.0.
AMD’s consumer Windows graphics-card identification guide explains how to identify a card’s model and manufacturer, but does not establish that the Radeon Software screens it describes show a VBIOS version. Do not assume a particular Radeon Software version exposes that field unless its documentation confirms it.

Why you may not see a VBIOS value
-
The utility does not support the device or field. NVIDIA notes that information available through
nvidia-smivaries by GPU; AMD SMI makes its VBIOS information conditional on availability. -
You are looking at a different adapter. Systems with integrated and discrete graphics can have multiple GPUs. Match the reported name or bus/device identifier to the adapter you mean to check.

Your software uses another label. Intel’s newer panel may show GOP rather than Video BIOS Version; panel labels differ by generation.

The consumer interface shows identification, not firmware details. A model or subsystem-vendor screen can help identify a card without reporting its VBIOS version.
Software, hardware generation, operating system, and driver support all affect which method works. If a documented command or panel does not expose the value, seek guidance for the exact GPU and computer model rather than treating a missing field as proof of a problem.

A version lookup is read-only; it is not a reason to flash firmware. Intel says a VBIOS update is not needed when the computer has no graphics-related problem. Intel also says its VBIOS updates are delivered as part of a system BIOS update and advises contacting the computer manufacturer for system-specific availability and instructions. See the update guidance in Intel’s Video BIOS FAQ.
