Naoki Hamaguchi has heard players asking for a full-disc version of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but says publishing—not the development team—controls the product lineup and SKUs. The announced physical edition is a “key disc” containing the opening portion; the rest of the game must be downloaded. Hamaguchi says fitting the game onto a disc configuration like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would have required compromises to fidelity and quality.
What Hamaguchi said about full-disc requests
In an interview with Radio Times on October 1, 2026, Hamaguchi said he had seen players on social media asking, “Give us a full disc version!” He acknowledged that some players may object to a physical edition that depends on a download for the rest of the game.
He drew a line between development and publishing responsibilities: “The product line-up, the SKUs (stock keeping units), how it’s going on sale; that is the responsibility of the publishing team. So, my authority there is somewhat limited.” In other words, his public response explains the format and development tradeoff; it is not an announcement that he can change the edition or promise a different one.

What comes on the physical disc
Hamaguchi described the announced physical release as a “key disc.” It contains the opening portion, but not the complete game: “You can’t play the entire game on that disc, but it’s got the opening – a sort of key disc – and then after that, it will ask you to download the rest.” The physical edition therefore is not a complete offline copy stored on the disc.

The interviews do not establish the exact download size, whether all remaining data can be installed for offline play after downloading, or whether a revised full-disc edition will be offered. A disc in the box should not be taken as proof that the complete game can be installed or played without internet access.
Why the team says it chose this format
In a September 10, 2026 interview republished by MMO.Net, Hamaguchi said the team considered using a disc configuration like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He said that approach would have required compromises in fidelity and quality, which the development team did not want to make.

That is the team’s stated rationale, not a published technical breakdown of disc capacity, compression, or the individual compromises under consideration. The report does not quantify how much content fits on the disc or compare installation behavior across platforms.
Hamaguchi says he supported a physical release
Hamaguchi also said that he values physical media and pushed for the game to receive a physical release: “I used my position to put forth an argument for the physical version as much as possible.” That support does not mean the disc contains the entire game; the announced format still requires downloading the rest.

Estimated game size and reported release plan
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Hamaguchi told Video Games Chronicle that the game would “probably” be around 200 GB, while noting details were still being worked out. This is a provisional estimate, not a final storage requirement. It should not be treated as the confirmed download size for the physical edition.
Radio Times reported an April 8, 2027 release date for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. That is a reported plan as of its October 1, 2026 article, not a guarantee; check current official platform listings for the latest date and edition details. The available interviews do not verify that disc and download configurations will be identical across platforms, regions, or editions.

What remains unclear for buyers
