FileBrowser Quantum is a free, open-source application you run on your own infrastructure to browse and manage files through a web interface. The project describes support for user authentication, granular access rules, sharing, indexed search, previews, editing and an API. It is not cloud storage provided by the project: you supply and configure the environment that hosts it.
What FileBrowser Quantum does
FileBrowser Quantum puts a browser-based interface in front of configured file sources. Its project overview describes a responsive interface with user management, access controls, sharing, file previews and editing. The project repository also describes multiple sources, real-time search and updates, and directory-level rules that can be scoped to users or groups. These are project-described capabilities, not independently measured performance results.
The landing-page feature list names several identity options: OpenID Connect (OIDC), LDAP, external JSON Web Tokens (JWT), two-factor authentication and proxy authentication. It also describes configurable shares, indexed search, API tokens and Swagger documentation. The exact options available to you depend on the version and configuration you deploy; consult the project overview and version-specific documentation before choosing an integration.
Choose a version track before installing
The official documentation distinguishes two tracks: v1.5.x, labeled stable, and v2.0.0, labeled beta on the About page last updated September 9, 2026. Beta status means readers prioritizing a stable release should not treat v2.0.0 as equivalent to the stable track. Verify the labels again before installation because release status can change.

- Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
- Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. You can store 22 million 3MB images, or 2 million 30MB songs, or 43K 1.5GB movies or 67 million 1MB documents! UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
The Getting Started guide provides separate installation paths for these tracks. Follow the guide for the version you intend to run; do not assume that installation or upgrade instructions for one track apply to the other.
Deployment: match the instructions to your environment
FileBrowser Quantum runs on infrastructure you provide. Its documentation includes Docker and native installation paths for Linux, macOS and Windows, so the appropriate route depends on the operating system and deployment approach you already use. The materials do not establish a particular server, NAS, drive or accessory as necessary.

Before deploying, identify which directories or sources the application will expose, which users need access, and how you will manage authentication and permissions. Treat this as an application you operate: the project supplies the software, not a hosted storage account or the underlying filesystems.
Search and resource considerations
The repository warns that source files and directories are indexed by default. Since indexed search depends on the configured sources, a larger or more complex filesystem can increase resource needs. The project does not give a universal memory requirement or a measured search-speed figure, so a single hardware recommendation cannot be inferred from its documentation.

Review the indexing behavior and source configuration in the relevant version’s documentation before exposing a large filesystem. The available evidence supports treating resource use as dependent on the size and complexity of your sources, rather than expecting a fixed requirement.
Sharing, permissions and identity
The project describes configurable sharing and access controls, including directory-level rules that can target users or groups. It also lists OIDC, LDAP, external JWT, two-factor authentication and proxy authentication. This combination may be relevant when you want a browser file interface tied to an existing identity setup, but the feature list alone does not establish the precise behavior or configuration steps for a particular provider.

File previews and editing are among the capabilities described by the project. The repository also points to API tokens and Swagger documentation for API exploration. If your workflow relies on a particular file type, editor behavior or API operation, verify that specific use case against the documentation for the selected version; the general feature descriptions do not promise support for every format or integration.

What it does not provide
FileBrowser Quantum is a self-hosted file manager, not a project-provided cloud storage service. You must supply the infrastructure and files it operates on. The repository also says that jobs are not supported and shell commands have been removed. If scheduled jobs or running shell commands from the file manager are requirements, those stated omissions matter when deciding whether it fits.
How to assess fit
FileBrowser Quantum is worth evaluating if you want web-based access to files under your own administration and its documented identity, sharing, permission, search, preview, editing or API capabilities fit your workflow. Before committing, compare the release track, installation and upgrade route, identity-provider support, permission granularity, sharing controls, indexing impact, integration needs and missing functions against your actual requirements.
