FHD+ DotDisplay is Xiaomi/Redmi terminology, not a complete display specification. FHD+ identifies a resolution class, while DotDisplay is part of the product naming; neither tells you by itself whether a phone uses LCD or AMOLED, how fast its screen refreshes, or how bright it gets. To judge a particular phone, check its exact pixel dimensions and model-specific display specifications.

What does FHD+ mean?

FHD+ is a resolution label. The exact pixel dimensions can differ between models, so the label alone does not tell you the precise number of pixels or pixel density. Xiaomi’s Redmi 15 page lists 2340 × 1080 pixels and 374 PPI; its Redmi 10 page lists 2400 × 1080 pixels and 405 PPI. These are model-specific examples, not competing measurements of the same screen.

Pixel density, expressed as pixels per inch (PPI), describes how many pixels fit into a given screen area. It is useful alongside resolution, but neither number alone captures every factor that affects perceived image quality, such as viewing distance, content, or panel characteristics.

What does DotDisplay tell you about the screen?

DotDisplay is Xiaomi/Redmi product terminology. It does not establish the panel technology. Xiaomi’s REDMI 12 5G FAQ identifies that model’s FHD+ DotDisplay as LCD, while Xiaomi’s global Redmi Note 12 page describes an AMOLED display and also lists FHD+ terminology. Check the specification for the exact model rather than assuming that DotDisplay means LCD or AMOLED.

Which other display specifications should you compare?

Refresh rate

Refresh rate is separate from resolution. Xiaomi lists the Redmi 15 at up to 144Hz, adjustable up to that rate for supported apps. The REDMI 12 5G FAQ lists refresh-rate steps of 30, 48, 60, and 90Hz. Those figures describe different models; they do not show what every FHD+ DotDisplay supports.

Brightness and contrast

Read brightness figures with their stated measurement mode. Xiaomi lists 700 nits typical brightness and 850 nits HBM for the Redmi 15. For the REDMI 12 5G, its FAQ lists 450 nits typical and 550 nits HBM, along with 1500:1 typical contrast. These figures come from different models and are not a controlled comparison.

Color and touch specifications

The Redmi 15 specification page lists 85% NTSC color gamut and touch sampling up to 288Hz. These are additional model-specific details, not properties implied by FHD+ or DotDisplay. Look for them on the exact device’s specification page if color reproduction or touch response matters to your decision.

How to evaluate a phone advertised with FHD+ DotDisplay

  1. Confirm the exact model and market. Product specifications and availability can vary by country and model variant. Start with the official page for the device being sold in your region.
  2. Find the resolution and density. Look for the pixel dimensions and PPI, not just the FHD+ label.
  3. Identify the panel type. Check whether the model is specified as LCD or AMOLED; DotDisplay alone does not answer this.
  4. Check refresh rate and its conditions. Note the stated maximum, selectable steps, or any qualification for supported apps.
  5. Read brightness figures with their modes. Keep typical brightness distinct from HBM rather than treating them as interchangeable numbers.
  6. Compare any additional details that matter to you. These may include contrast, color gamut, and touch sampling. Treat manufacturer figures as specifications, not independent comparative measurements.
