Put the video filenames in a concat-demuxer playlist, then tell FFmpeg to repeat that playlist and send the encoded output to your YouTube Live ingest URL. The command below is a starting template: it assumes compatible input files, and its bitrate and keyframe settings must match your chosen resolution and frame rate.
1. Build the playlist in playback order
Create a plain-text file named playlist.ffconcat beside the videos. The first line must be exactly ffconcat version 1.0 for automatic format recognition. List one file per line, in the order you want them to play:

file 'video-02.mp4'
file 'video-03.mp4'The concat demuxer reads the files sequentially and adjusts timestamps so each begins after the preceding file. Its no-re-encode route depends on the files having matching streams, codecs, and time bases; otherwise it can fail or produce artifacts. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
Playlist paths and safety
Relative paths such as the examples above are simplest when the playlist and media files are in the same directory. FFmpeg’s safe-path checks may reject paths it considers unsafe. The command below uses -safe 0, which permits broader paths; use it only with a playlist you control. If your relative paths work under the default safe mode, omit -safe 0. 2. Run FFmpeg and replace the YouTube destination
With a compatible playlist, use this as a starting command:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv 'rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_HOST/YOUR_STREAM_KEY'-repaces file input for live output.-stream_loop -1, before the concat input, repeats the input sequence indefinitely.-f concatselects the concat demuxer;-i playlist.ffconcatsupplies the ordered list.- The video and audio options encode H.264 and AAC. The example’s bitrate and GOP settings are not universal settings; choose them for your output resolution and frame rate.
- The final quoted destination is a placeholder, not a working URL. Replace it with the ingest URL and stream name/key from your own YouTube Live setup. Keep the key private.
This template has not been verified against your installed FFmpeg build or media. Check your version and available options with ffmpeg -version and ffmpeg -h full, then test the actual playlist before relying on it. In particular, verify that your build accepts the -stream_loop syntax shown.

3. Match the output to YouTube’s settings
YouTube Live accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingest and documents H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; CBR encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends encrypted RTMPS transport. Check the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before selecting values.
For example, YouTube’s current settings table recommends 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps. That is a platform recommendation for that specific mode, not a universal target. The example command’s 4500k video bitrate is therefore not a 1080p30 recommendation; select a suitable bitrate from YouTube’s table for your chosen resolution and frame rate.

Set the GOP/keyframe interval to align with YouTube’s two-second recommendation. A GOP of 60 frames represents two seconds only at 30 fps; at 60 fps, a two-second interval is 120 frames. Confirm that bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and codec all correspond to the output mode you intend to send.
Get the real ingest address and key
Use the URL and stream key shown in your YouTube Live setup. Depending on the encoder, YouTube’s primary RTMPS ingest address and stream name may be entered in separate fields or combined as STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME. 4. If the videos are not compatible
The concat demuxer is the simpler choice when inputs have compatible streams, codecs, and time bases, and it can avoid re-encoding in that case. If they differ, normalize the files first or use FFmpeg’s concat filter, which supports concatenation with re-encoding. Consult the FFmpeg FAQ on concatenating video files for the alternatives.
5. Test before you depend on the stream
- Probe each video and confirm its streams, codecs, and timing are suitable for the demuxer workflow. If they do not match, normalize or switch to the concat-filter approach.
- Run the command with your actual playlist and YouTube-provided ingest values. Check that all files play in the intended order and that the transition from the final file back to the first is clean.
- Test sound and motion similar to what viewers will receive. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the broadcast; use its encoder settings and live-stream guidance.
- If FFmpeg rejects the playlist, first check the exact header, filenames, relative paths, and safe-path setting. If it starts but the output has errors or artifacts at transitions, inspect compatibility and try normalization or the concat filter.
6. Troubleshoot common failures
