To loop a local MP4 file indefinitely on YouTube Live from Windows, run FFmpeg with -re -stream_loop -1 before the input file, then send the feed to the RTMPS URL and stream key for your YouTube stream. The command below is a starting template for 30-fps video; adjust its bitrate and keyframe interval to match your source and connection.
FFmpeg command for looping an MP4 to YouTube Live
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "C:pathvideo.mp4" -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"Replace C:pathvideo.mp4 with the actual path to your MP4, and replace the destination placeholder with the RTMPS server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Keep the URL and key private: together they authorize a feed to your channel. If the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the command.
This is an illustrative template, not a command tested on a particular Windows PC. It assumes a 30-fps source for its 60-frame GOP, and an approximately 4.5 Mbps H.264 video feed. Confirm your FFmpeg build includes libx264, then test in YouTube’s preview before broadcasting publicly.
What the loop and real-time options do
-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to loop the input infinitely. It is an input option, so it belongs before the relevant-i.-rereads the file at its native frame rate, pacing the output in real time instead of sending the file as quickly as the computer can process it. It also belongs before-i. FFmpeg cautions against using-reon actual capture or live input.- FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output, so option placement matters. Keep both input options before
-i.

Set up YouTube Live and start FFmpeg
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select a stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy that stream’s server URL and stream key into the FFmpeg destination. Use the values for the stream you selected, not another stream on your channel. YouTube’s live stream settings explain managing and resetting keys.
- Run the command in Windows Command Prompt. For a scheduled stream, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and click Go live when ready. For an immediately active stream, follow the controls and settings shown for that stream.
- Check that both image and audio arrive, test with representative motion and sound, and monitor stream health and warnings while broadcasting. YouTube’s setup guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- To stop, interrupt FFmpeg and use Live Control Room’s End Stream control when applicable. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same archive guarantee for longer broadcasts.

Choose video, audio, bitrate, and keyframes
Video codec, container, and transport
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. For RTMP/RTMPS, its current guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. The template uses H.264 video and AAC audio. It sends the output as FLV, as in the example command.

Bitrate and upload capacity
The example sets video bitrate and maximum rate to 4500 kbps, with a 9000 kbps buffer. Those values are not universal: choose a bitrate suitable for your video’s resolution and frame rate and for the upload capacity your connection can sustain. YouTube recommends CBR. Its encoder guidance gives 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended setting for 1080p/30 fps H.264; these are YouTube’s configuration recommendations, not independent performance measurements. Consult the YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance for other formats and current recommendations.
Two-second keyframe cadence
YouTube recommends keyframes every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. In the template, -g 60 and -keyint_min 60 set a 60-frame interval, which is two seconds only at 30 fps. For another frame rate, set the GOP/keyframe interval to match a two-second cadence; do not copy 60 frames blindly. The template also sets -sc_threshold 0.

Audio and source file
The template re-encodes audio to AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. It cannot produce audio if the MP4 has no audio stream. If the feed is silent, inspect the file’s streams and confirm that the installed FFmpeg build supports the selected audio codec.
Troubleshooting common problems
FFmpeg exits or the video does not loop forever
Confirm -stream_loop -1 appears before the input’s -i, and verify that FFmpeg can read the file at the specified path. The value -1 requests infinite looping.

The feed races ahead or arrives in bursts
For file input, put -re before -i so FFmpeg paces reading at the native frame rate. Do not use that pacing option on actual capture or live input.
YouTube rejects the feed or reports an issue
Check that the server URL and key belong to the selected stream, that the key has not been reset, and that the output uses an accepted codec and container. Compare bitrate and keyframe cadence with YouTube’s encoder guidance, then test in the preview and inspect stream-health warnings.

There is no audio
Check whether the MP4 contains an audio stream and whether your FFmpeg build has the AAC encoder available. The example’s audio settings do not create an audio track when the source has none.
The connection cannot sustain the feed
Lower resolution or bitrate to a level your upload connection can sustain, then test before going live. If Wi-Fi is unreliable, a wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to remove wireless variability; it is not a requirement for FFmpeg.
