Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has a free demo reported for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It lets you try six fighters and several solo or CPU-controlled modes, but it does not include player-versus-player matches, and demo progress does not transfer to the full game, according to GAMINGbible.
Where can you play the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves demo?
GAMINGbible reports that the free demo is available on:

The same report says a Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled for late October 2026. That is a reported future schedule, not confirmation that a Switch 2 demo or game is currently available. Availability can vary by region; check the relevant platform store for the listing in your country.

What modes are included?

Arcade mode offers two prologue matches against the CPU: one as Terry Bogard and one as Hotaru Futaba, according to GAMINGbible.

Classic Versus
The demo’s Classic Versus mode supports player-versus-CPU and CPU-versus-CPU matches. It does not support player-versus-player, so it is not a way to play a local head-to-head match against another person in the demo.
Practice and customization
GAMINGbible also lists Training, Tutorial, Trial, and Colour Edit. Together, those options provide ways to learn the controls, practice, attempt character trials, and customize colours; the report does not specify further restrictions or features for these modes.

Does Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves have a story mode?
The full game includes Episodes of South Town (EOST), described in promotional copy relayed by GAMINGbible as a solo RPG adventure. The copy says players fight contenders under varying conditions and earn XP and rewards. That description is about the full game, not a promise that the demo contains the complete story mode.
Does your progress carry over into the full game?
No. GAMINGbible reports that progress made in the demo does not transfer to the full game. Treat the demo as a separate trial: it can help you decide whether the paid game suits you, but you should not expect demo progress to continue after buying it.

The demo gives you a chance to try the listed fighters, learn the basic systems, and test matches against the CPU. Its absence of player-versus-player play means it cannot answer whether the full game’s head-to-head options meet your needs. GAMINGbible also reports a Metacritic score of 80 for the game in 2026, but does not establish the platform or edition behind that figure; check Metacritic for current, platform-specific details before relying on it.
Fatal Fury is often framed as a rival to Street Fighter, but that is a comparison between fighting-game series, not a claim that they share an owner or fictional universe. GAMINGbible places the first Fatal Fury release in Neo Geo arcades in November 1991 and its home Neo Geo release a month later; it compares those dates with Street Fighter (1987) and Mortal Kombat (1992).
