Examples from Zendesk’s 2026 roundup show several ways to achieve that: filters for large libraries, jump links for long pages, routes for different audiences, and visible support options. These are illustrative patterns, not independently measured rankings or proof that a particular design improves outcomes.
What should an FAQ page look like?
There is no single ideal layout. A compact FAQ may work as a clearly grouped list; a larger collection may need search, filters, or audience-specific routes. A long page can benefit from a table of contents or links that jump directly to a section. In every case, the answer should address the reader’s task, and the page should make the next step clear when the answer does not solve the problem.
Zendesk’s article, “19 best FAQ page examples & how to build yours,” updated May 12, 2026, describes examples from several organizations. The examples below are useful for studying individual design choices; they should not be read as a controlled comparison of performance. Websites can change, so treat the details as patterns rather than guarantees about what a live page currently displays.
FAQ page examples and the patterns they illustrate
| Example | Pattern described | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Zendesk | Routes by product or solution, administrative topics, guides, and company or community news | Readers need different destinations, not just a list of questions |
| McDonald’s | Filters narrow a large question library | A long catalog would otherwise require repeated browsing |
| Microsoft 365 | A jump-to list links to categories or questions on the same page | Readers need to skip directly to a relevant part of one page |
| Nintendo | Jump links, readable explanations followed by resolutions, and language options | Answers need both context and a clear solution, or visitors use different languages |
| Vrbo | Separate routes for travelers, owners, and property managers, alongside categories, jump links, accordions, and a rating survey | One service supports audiences with distinct questions |
| A table of contents with category selection | Readers should choose a topic before browsing its answers | |
| Wistia | Prominent top or recent content and a persistent footer with search and a support-ticket route | Readers may need to search or contact support from anywhere on the page |
| Wandering Bear | Distinctive brand voice paired with informative answers | A company wants a recognizable tone without sacrificing useful instructions |
Zendesk: route readers to the right destination
The Zendesk example describes browsing by product or solution, administrative topics, guides, and company or community news. The underlying idea is that an FAQ page can be an entry point to several kinds of help, rather than a single undifferentiated question list. This approach is especially relevant when readers arrive with different tasks and need a clear route onward.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
McDonald’s: filter a large library
Filters let readers narrow a substantial collection instead of repeatedly loading or scanning more items. This pattern is most useful when a page has enough questions that browsing by eye becomes cumbersome. Categories and filters should reflect how customers think about their issue, not only how the organization divides its internal teams.
Microsoft 365: link directly to sections
A jump-to list gives readers a shortcut to categories or questions farther down the same page. It is a lightweight solution when content belongs together but would be tedious to reach through scrolling. Link labels need to describe the destination plainly so readers can choose before jumping.
Nintendo: pair explanation with resolution
The described Nintendo pattern combines navigation for a long FAQ with answers that explain a concept and then give its resolution. That structure helps when readers need to understand why something happens as well as what action to take. Language options can also make an otherwise useful page more accessible to a broader audience.
Vrbo: create paths for distinct audiences
Travelers, owners, and property managers may use the same service but ask different questions. Vrbo’s described audience filters provide separate entry points, supported by categories, jump links, accordion answers, and a rating survey. The broader lesson is to split navigation by audience when the same label or list would force substantially different readers to sort through irrelevant material.

WhatsApp: let readers choose a category
A table of contents with category selection offers a direct way into topic areas. This is a useful middle ground between a short list and a sophisticated search interface: it helps visitors orient themselves without requiring them to scan every question.
Wistia: keep search and human help within reach
The Wistia example highlights prominent top or recent content, plus a footer that keeps search and a support-ticket route easy to reach. This matters because self-service does not resolve every case. A reader who cannot find an answer should be able to continue to another resource or contact support without starting over.
Wandering Bear: keep a distinctive voice useful
A branded tone can make support content feel consistent with the rest of a company’s communication. The example’s practical point is that voice and clarity are compatible: personality should not obscure the instruction, qualification, or next action a reader needs.
What makes an FAQ page easier to use?
- Questions sound like customers. Use support tickets, interaction tags, customer search terms, and frontline staff input to identify recurring needs. Preserve both full-sentence questions and shorter search phrases customers actually use. Zendesk’s FAQ guidance argues that matching customer language can help an answer surface in search.
- Organization follows the reader’s task. Group related answers by topic or audience. Separate pages or entry points when distinct groups have meaningfully different needs.
- Navigation fits the library. A short FAQ may need only clear categories. Larger collections can benefit from search or filters; long pages can use jump links or a table of contents. More navigation is not automatically better if the content is small and easy to scan.
- Answers resolve, not merely identify, a topic. Explain the issue or concept, then give the resolution or steps. Use readable language and include screenshots or a short video when seeing the process would clarify it.
- A fallback is visible. Provide a clear route to contact support or submit a request when the published answer does not fit the reader’s case.
- Content is maintained. Plan, publish, observe use and feedback, and revise. An FAQ is service content that can become outdated, not a one-time publishing task.
How to build an FAQ page from real customer questions
- Gather recurring questions. Review support tickets, interaction tags, customer search terms, and input from frontline staff. Look for repeated needs rather than treating every one-off case as a new FAQ entry.
- Keep recognizable wording. Use the terms customers use, including both complete questions and brief search phrases. A polished answer can still retain the customer’s vocabulary in its heading.
- Group by topic or audience. Give readers a route that matches what they are trying to do. If travelers and property managers need different information, do not make them sift through one mixed list.
- Choose the least complicated navigation that fits. Use categories for a modest collection, filters or search for a large one, and jump links or a contents list when a page is long. Make labels specific enough to predict what is behind them.
- Write a complete answer. State the relevant explanation, then provide the resolution or steps. Add a screenshot or short video when a visual demonstration makes the task easier to follow.
- Offer a recovery route. Make it possible to contact support or submit a request if the answer does not resolve the issue.
- Review and revise after launch. Observe how readers use the content and consider feedback when updating answers, navigation, and coverage.
When should an FAQ become a help center?
A static FAQ is suited to a focused set of recurring questions. A help center is broader: Zendesk’s self-service guidance describes it as potentially including an organized knowledge base, a request portal for unresolved questions, and a community. Consider that broader structure when readers need more than a short collection of answers—for example, when they need organized guides, a way to submit cases, or a community destination.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Moving to a help center does not remove the need for clear FAQ content. The same principles still apply: use customer language, organize around reader needs, make content findable, and keep a route to human help available.
How to choose the right pattern
| Need | Pattern to consider | Example described by Zendesk |
|---|---|---|
| Readers need to narrow a large collection | Filters or search | McDonald’s filters; Wistia search |
| Readers need to skip around one long page | Jump links or a table of contents | Microsoft 365 and Nintendo jump links; WhatsApp category selection |
| Different audiences have different questions | Audience-specific entry points | Vrbo’s traveler, owner, and property-manager paths |
| Readers need more than an answer list | Routes to guides, other help destinations, or a broader support structure | Zendesk’s product, solution, guide, and other destinations |
| Readers may remain stuck after self-service | Persistent contact or request route | Wistia’s ticket route; a help-center request portal |
| A process is difficult to explain with text alone | Screenshot or short video alongside readable steps | Zendesk’s FAQ creation guidance |
These examples identify available design choices, not guaranteed outcomes. A filter is useful only if it helps people narrow the content; a contact link is useful only if it gives them a workable next step. Judge a pattern by whether it reduces the effort for the specific audience and task the page serves.
