On October 6, 2015, Facebook announced plans to build a third data-center building at its existing Forest City, North Carolina, campus, with an additional capital investment of more than $200 million, according to a statement by site manager Keven McCammon quoted by Data Center Knowledge. That was a planned investment, not a verified final project cost.
What Facebook announced in 2015
The announcement concerned a third building at Facebook’s Forest City campus in Rutherford County—not the company’s first North Carolina data center. The campus’s first building had broken ground in 2010. By 2015, the site had two primary data-center buildings and a cold-storage data center, according to the 2015 report.
McCammon described the planned addition this way: “We’re happy to announce that we’ll be constructing our third data center building in Forest City, which will represent an additional capital investment in excess of $200 million.” The figure describes the investment Facebook announced for the project; it does not establish what the building ultimately cost.
What the new building was expected to contain
The report said the building would house the latest hardware designs from the Open Compute Project (OCP), a Facebook-led open-source hardware and data-center design initiative. It did not identify particular server, storage, or networking models, so the announcement does not support naming specific equipment.

What the reported employment figures mean
In 2015, McCammon said the Forest City campus had 125 full-time employees, as reported by Data Center Knowledge. That is a contemporaneous campus figure, not a current headcount or a jobs estimate for the third building alone.
Meta’s current U.S. locations page lists Forest City with more than $750 million in aggregate campus investment and more than 275 operational jobs supported once complete. Those figures describe the campus overall; they cannot be assigned to the third building or directly compared with the 2015 construction-era staffing figure.

What is known about the project’s later outcome
The 2015 report records the plan, while Meta’s current location listing provides campus-level totals. Neither establishes the third building’s completion date or its final project cost. The North Carolina government’s 2010 announcement independently places the original data-center site near Forest City in Rutherford County, confirming the location history.
