If an Eye-Fi card is not connecting, first check that the camera’s Eye-Fi control is enabled, the card has a saved transfer destination, and the camera is ready to communicate. But many Eye-Fi products depend on services that were scheduled to shut down in 2016, so correct settings may not restore wireless transfers. If wireless recovery fails, use a compatible card reader to copy files that are still readable.
What “not connecting” can mean
An Eye-Fi transfer depends on several parts working together: the camera must permit Eye-Fi use, the card needs a configured destination or transfer direction, the wireless connection must be reachable, and the camera must be free to communicate. A status icon or message can help distinguish a disabled feature from a pending transfer or a card error. The labels and behavior vary by camera, so use the manual for your exact model rather than assuming another camera’s instructions apply.
Check the camera’s Eye-Fi setting and status
- Find the Eye-Fi control. Look in the camera menu for “Eye-Fi,” “Eye-Fi Upload,” or a wireless-card setting, then enable it if it is off. Menu paths differ by model.
- Check how your camera starts transfers. On some Casio models, communication starts after you take a picture; on models where the option is in playback, select it and press SET to begin, according to Casio’s support FAQ.
- Read the camera’s status indicator using its own guide. For example, Sony’s DSC-H400 guide distinguishes standby, upload standby, connecting, uploading, and error icons. Nikon’s D850 manual has separate indicators for disabled, enabled with no pending photos, waiting, transferring, and camera/card error. These icon meanings are not universal: see the Sony DSC-H400 Help Guide or Nikon D850 manual for those models.
Verify the saved destination and wireless conditions
The card must already have the relevant access point or transfer direction configured. Check that the access point and receiving device are on and reachable, then move the camera closer if reception may be weak. Wireless interference can also interrupt transfers; Sony notes that other communication devices may interfere with wireless LAN communication in its DSC-H400 guide.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Check camera-specific settings as well. For example, Nikon says airplane mode can disable Eye-Fi upload on the D850. Consult your camera’s manual for the setting names and their effect; do not assume this D850 behavior applies to every model.

Let the camera finish writing or recording
A camera may defer wireless communication while it is writing an image, recording a movie, or performing another operation. Wait for the current activity to finish, then leave the camera powered on while pending photos transfer. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide specifically tells users to keep the camera on until all photos have transferred.
Handle error indicators without risking your photos
If the camera shows an error, follow its model-specific guidance. Sony recommends ejecting and reinserting the card or turning the camera off and on in its DSC-H400 guide. Nikon’s D850 manual advises checking card firmware for certain flashing error indicators; if the issue persists, it suggests trying another card or formatting only after copying files elsewhere.

A persistent error can indicate card corruption. Before formatting, prioritize copying or recovering any files you need: formatting erases card contents and is not a first-line recovery step. Camera guidance varies, so follow the manual for your model.

SanDisk’s Eye-Fi SD Card End of Support notice says Eye-Fi announced on June 30, 2016 that it would no longer support several products, including SanDisk Eye-Fi SD cards. The notice says users should have ceased wireless use no later than September 16, 2016 because some services the products relied on would be shut down. The notice page was published September 13, 2022 and updated November 6, 2025.

That shutdown is an important possibility when a card, camera, and local Wi-Fi appear correctly configured but transfers still fail. The notice does not establish that every card, app, or local direct mode stopped working identically on the same date; it does establish that support ended and dependent services were slated for shutdown. Reconfiguring the camera or reinstalling an app cannot be assumed to restore a discontinued service.

If wireless transfer is unavailable, a USB SD card reader can provide a wired way to retrieve files that remain readable. Match the reader to the card’s format and the computer or mobile device’s connector, and confirm that the host can access the card. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 guide describes a USB reader for card setup; using one now for file retrieval does not repair a damaged card or restore Eye-Fi wireless services.
