For traders holding leveraged positions for hours or days, a bounded funding rate may matter more than an order acknowledgment measured in fractions of a second. Exolane documents a per-market funding ceiling and oracle-priced settlement; Hyperliquid documents a price-time-priority order book and tiered fees. Neither design makes one venue universally cheaper or better: the relevant comparison is your expected holding-period cost and the execution controls your strategy needs.
What counts as the cost of a perpetual trade?
The headline trading fee is only one part of the bill. Estimate the full round trip over your planned holding period, including opening and closing fees, funding paid or received, keeper charges and network gas where applicable, and the effect of how the execution price is determined. A lower fee rate alone does not establish a lower realized cost.
- Trading fees: depend on whether you add or remove liquidity and, on Hyperliquid, your fee tier.
- Funding: is market-driven; the payment direction and live rate matter as much as any published ceiling.
- Other charges: Exolane lists keeper fees and variable Arbitrum gas. The cited Hyperliquid fee documentation does not establish a directly comparable per-action gas figure.
- Execution: oracle movement while an Exolane order is pending and order-book depth or limit price on Hyperliquid can affect the result.
How do their fee and funding mechanics compare?

Why the funding ceilings are not an apples-to-apples comparison
Exolane expresses its documented limit as an annual percentage rate per market, while Hyperliquid describes a cap per hour and hourly payments. Do not compare 15% and 4% as if they were rates with the same time basis or formula. Check each market’s current funding rate, whether your position pays or receives funding, and the expected duration before estimating carry.
Estimate your own holding-period cost
For each venue, use the current fee applicable to your maker or taker behavior, the live funding rate and direction, and the actions needed to open, manage, and close the position. Add known keeper and network charges where applicable. A funding ceiling can bound one component without bounding total cost or guaranteeing a lower bill.

How do settlement and execution differ?
Exolane: settlement at an oracle update
Exolane says orders settle at the next valid Pyth oracle price and that positions typically settle within 1–5 seconds. That is a typical pending window, not a direct end-to-end latency benchmark. Exolane says order size does not create local liquidity price impact; however, the oracle can update while an order is pending, changing the final settlement price. Hyperliquid: matching on an order book
Hyperliquid documents an on-chain order book with price-time priority: “The orders are matched in price-time priority.” A market order is described as executing immediately at the current market price. Available depth and the chosen limit price shape execution, so order-book access provides different controls rather than a guarantee of a particular fill. What the published speed figures do—and do not—show
Exolane documents a typical 1–5-second pending period for oracle settlement. Hyperliquid reports median end-to-end latency of 0.2 seconds and a 99th percentile of 0.9 seconds for a geographically co-located client. When predictable carry deserves more weight
If you expect to keep leverage open for hours, days, or longer, funding accumulation can be more important than a faster acknowledgment. Exolane’s documented per-market ceiling may help you assess one source of carry uncertainty, but it is not the live funding rate and does not cap trading fees, keeper charges, gas, or settlement-price movement. Compare actual market terms over your intended holding period.

When order-book controls and responsiveness matter
If your strategy depends on resting limit orders, price-time priority, or immediate market-order behavior, Hyperliquid’s documented order-book model may be more relevant. The applicable fee tier and available depth still matter; platform-reported latency under co-location does not predict every user’s realized fill.

What to check before choosing a venue
- Confirm the market and limits. Exolane’s overview lists 16 live markets and says leverage varies by market; verify current listings and limits in the platform documentation. Exolane: What Is Exolane?
