It replaced the audiobook-and-ebook service many people remember as Scribd, while the current Scribd brand is a separate document platform with a separate subscription. Everand advertises more than 1.5 million audiobooks and ebooks, but that headline does not mean every title is unlimited: most of the broad catalog uses monthly unlocks, alongside a curated selection of more than 20,000 titles available without an unlock.
What Everand is—and how it relates to Scribd
Scribd Inc. is the parent company behind Everand, Scribd, SlideShare, and Fable. Everand is the company’s consumer reading-and-listening service. Scribd is now the document-oriented product. You can use the same login, but Everand and Scribd require separate subscriptions. A bank statement may show “Scribd Inc.” even when the charge is for Everand because that is the merchant of record. What can you read and listen to?
Everand combines narrated books, digital books, podcasts, Originals, curated collections, and personalized recommendations. Fable community features are also connected to Everand activity. Everand and Fable announced a shared subscription that can synchronize reading progress, saved books, lists, and streaks; Fable remains a companion social-reading service rather than proof that every Fable title is in Everand’s catalog (Scribd Inc. announcement).

Unlock titles
Most of the large catalog is accessed with monthly unlocks. An eligible title page identifies that requirement. Using an unlock gives complete access for as long as your subscription remains active.
Unlimited titles
Titles marked “unlimited” come from a curated subset and do not consume an unlock. “Unlimited” therefore means unlimited access to that selected section, not to every book in the 1.5-million-plus catalog. Previewing or browsing a title does not guarantee that the complete work is included.
How Everand unlocks work
- Open an eligible audiobook or ebook.
- Spend one available monthly unlock to activate it.
- Read or listen to the complete title while your subscription is active.
- Use other unlocks on the same billing cycle if your plan provides them.
- After using them, choose titles marked unlimited or wait for the next billing date.
Unlocks refresh on your billing date, not necessarily on the first day of the calendar month. They are not purchases, permanent downloads, or Audible-style ownership credits. See Everand’s unlock explanation for the service’s current rules.

These plans and the discontinued Legacy structure are detailed at Everand Support. If every unlock is used, the pre-tax arithmetic is about $11.99 per unlock on Standard, $5.66 on Plus, and $5.80 on Deluxe. Those figures describe monthly access capacity, not the cost of books you keep forever.
Choosing Standard
Choose Standard when one unlock normally covers your premium reading and the unlimited selection supplies the rest.

Choosing Plus
Choose Plus when you expect to use all three unlocks in most billing cycles. If you regularly need more than three, compare the value of buying or borrowing the extras rather than assuming Deluxe is automatically cheaper.
Choosing Deluxe
Deluxe makes sense only when five unlocks are genuinely useful most months. Inspect your target titles first; a large catalog headline is not a guarantee that those books are unlimited or even available.

Offline reading and listening
- Install Everand and sign in to the active account.
- Open the audiobook or ebook.
- Select the download control.
- Open the downloaded title from the Everand app when offline.
Downloads are protected app access, not portable files. A title can still require an unlock even after downloading, and cancellation or expiration makes previously downloaded books inaccessible until the subscription is restored. Download and test the titles before travel, and manage the subscription through the same channel used to start it. The detailed download guidance is at Scribd Support.
Trials, renewal, and cancellation
Current offers differ by signup channel: Everand’s website shows a 30-day trial, while the US Apple App Store listing shows seven days. Offers include service access and one free title or unlock where the applicable promotion says so. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. The terms are explained at Everand’s trial support page.
- Record the renewal date when you start a trial.
- Cancel through the website if you subscribed on the website.
- For an Apple subscription, cancel in Apple’s subscription settings rather than assuming the Everand website controls it.
- After cancellation, access normally continues through the paid period, but it ends when the subscription lapses; unlocked and downloaded titles are not retained as owned books.
Is Everand worth paying for?
Strong fit
- You use both ebooks and audiobooks.
- You finish at least one or several books each month.
- You accept rental-style subscription access.
- Your preferred titles are verified as unlimited or unlock-eligible.
- You value one app, offline access, and cross-device reading.
Weak fit
- You want a permanent library, DRM-free files, or playback outside the app.
- You consume more premium audiobooks than your monthly unlock allowance.
- You mainly want one specific bestseller that may require an unlock or be unavailable.
- You expect the entire 1.5-million-plus catalog to be unlimited.
- Your public library already supplies most of what you read.
Before subscribing, search for the actual books you plan to read and check each title’s access label. That test is more meaningful than the overall catalog number.

Audible’s current plan details are in its Premium help page and Standard help page. The practical choice depends on four questions: do you need ebooks, audiobooks, or both; do you want to rent or keep; how many premium titles will you use monthly; and are your desired titles actually unlimited?
Verdict
Everand is best understood as a mixed ebook-and-audiobook rental subscription: a large unlock-based catalog plus a smaller unlimited catalog. It is compelling for frequent, mixed-format readers who do not require ownership. It is a poor substitute for a permanent audiobook library, a free library card, or unlimited access to every premium title.
