Etihad calls The Residence “the world’s only three-room suite in the sky”; that is the airline’s promotional description. The practical distinction is the additional living room and ensuite shower, not whether the Apartment is private: both are private spaces, but only The Residence is described as a three-room suite with its own shower.
What is the First Class Apartment like?
The Apartment is Etihad’s A380 First Class option. Its listed features include a leather lounge chair, a separate bed, and a personal vanity. First guests use the A380’s onboard First Class shower room, rather than a shower inside each Apartment. Etihad’s current product page does not give a distinct Apartment occupancy figure, so check the seat map and booking details for the flight you are considering.
What does The Residence add?
The Residence combines a separate living area, a private bedroom, and an ensuite shower room, and Etihad says it accommodates up to two guests. Those features make it the more self-contained choice if you want a dedicated place to sit apart from the bedroom or prefer a private shower over access to the shared First Class shower room. That comparison follows from the cabin layouts Etihad lists; it is not a claim about service quality or a measured comfort ranking.

How do you book The Residence?
- Search for an Etihad flight operated by an A380 and select a First ticket for up to two guests.
- During seat selection, look for The Residence among the available options and select it if it is offered.
- Before completing the booking, confirm the aircraft and that The Residence is selectable for your exact flight and date.
Etihad’s instructions describe this First-ticket-then-seat-selection process; they do not guarantee that The Residence is available on every A380 flight or that a particular fare includes it. The Residence page lists Abu Dhabi connections with London, New York, and Paris, while Etihad’s fleet page lists London, Tokyo, Toronto, Paris, and Singapore. Those official route lists differ, so treat them as snapshots, not as a guarantee for a specific itinerary. Check Etihad’s live flight search for the aircraft and Residence inventory on your travel date.
Which Etihad cabin should you choose?
- Choose the First Apartment if a private First Class space with a lounge chair, separate bed, personal vanity, and access to the First Class shower room meets your needs.
- Consider The Residence if you value a separate living area and bedroom, an ensuite shower, or accommodation for up to two guests.
The price difference for a current itinerary and live seat availability are not established by Etihad’s published product descriptions; both depend on the flight and booking inventory. Etihad’s 2023 relaunch announcement quoted upgrades from USD 2,500 per person, one way, but that historical starting price is not evidence of a current fare.

Why the A380 and route matter
The Residence and First Apartment are A380 cabin products, not options on every Etihad aircraft. The airline’s A380 fleet page currently names London, Tokyo, Toronto, Paris, and Singapore. In a June 18, 2026 announcement, Etihad said Tokyo A380 service had begun; its February 25, 2026 announcement said Bangkok A380 service would start in October 2026. Schedules and aircraft assignments can change, so a destination list alone cannot confirm which cabin will appear on your flight. Check the aircraft shown for the exact departure and whether the desired product is offered during seat selection.
