Spoilers for the ending unlock route. End of Abyss has separate normal-ending and secret-ending completion milestones. Guides say the secret route requires all eight Data Shards, turning them in at the Mainframe in Lower Levels B3, and defeating the final boss again. The available sources establish how to trigger it, but do not establish what story scenes or revelations change.

How to unlock the secret ending

According to the iTechGuides walkthrough, the reported route is to complete the normal ending, collect all eight Data Shards, return to the Mainframe in Lower Levels B3 and turn them in, then defeat the final boss again. The community Logbook guide describes the same sequence. iTechGuides says the shards can be collected after the main story, so this is reported as a post-completion route rather than a requirement that must be met before the first ending.

  1. Finish the main story and reach the normal ending.
  2. Collect all eight Data Shards from the areas listed below. For room-level navigation and any key or equipment prerequisites, consult the iTechGuides location walkthrough.
  3. Return to the Mainframe in Lower Levels B3 and hand in all eight shards.
  4. Fight and defeat the final boss again to complete the reported secret-ending route.

The 100% Guides index also lists a dedicated Secret Ending Guide (All Data Shards). Its use of “True Ending” is guide terminology; the achievement record calls the milestone “Secret Ending.”

What changes between the normal and secret endings?

The verified difference is that the game tracks them as separate completion milestones. Exophase’s Xbox Series achievement record labels the normal-ending achievement “You Did It” and the secret-ending achievement “The End.” That record confirms the distinction, but does not describe either ending’s scenes.

Comparison Normal ending Secret ending
Achievement milestone “You Did It,” according to Exophase’s Xbox Series achievement record. “The End,” according to Exophase’s Xbox Series achievement record.
Reported route The achievement record does not specify how to reach it. Guides report collecting all eight Data Shards, handing them in at the Lower Levels B3 Mainframe, then defeating the final boss again.
Story or cutscene difference Not established by the sources cited here. Not established by the sources cited here.

The sources do not establish whether the secret ending adds dialogue, changes a character’s fate, explains the parasite or the facility, or should be considered a “good” or “true” ending. The End of Abyss Wiki story guide, last updated October 3, 2026, says ending depictions were not documented in the official pages, developer material, or reviews it reviewed. That is a limited account of its source review, not proof that no scene-specific account exists elsewhere.

What the evidence does—and does not—confirm

PlayStation’s US game listing identifies a PS5 version and describes Cel as a young combat technician investigating disturbances in an underground compound. It supplies game context, not information about the endings. The achievement record and guides support the separate milestones and reported unlock route; they do not provide a scene-by-scene comparison.
