To make your PlayStation account “primary” on a PS5, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play: sign in with the account, then go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and select Enable. Sony allows this setting on one PS5 at a time.
Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play
“Primary PS5” is common shorthand, but Sony calls the PS5 feature Console Sharing and Offline Play. Use the account whose purchased content and eligible benefits you want other users on the console to access.
- Sign in to the PS5 with that PlayStation account.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable. Sony says the setting is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in with the account.
If the setting is already enabled on another PS5, disable it there before enabling it on this one. Sony’s instructions: How to turn on PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play.
What enabling the setting lets other users do
Other users on that PS5 can play games and use media purchased and downloaded by the account holder, including when the console is offline. They may also use some PlayStation Plus benefits. Not every subscription benefit is shared: eligibility depends on the membership and on whether the specific content or benefit is still available. See PlayStation Account & Security support for account and membership details.

Move sharing to a different PS5
If you can use the old console
- On the old PS5, sign in with the account that enabled sharing.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then select Disable.
- On the replacement PS5, sign in with the same account and follow the enable steps above.
If the old console is inaccessible
Sign in to PlayStation Account Management and remotely deactivate all devices. This is an all-device action, not a way to deactivate only one PS5, and Sony limits it to once every six months. Reserve it for cases where you cannot disable sharing on the old console. Sony explains the PS5 options in its Console Sharing and Offline Play guidance.
PS5 sharing is different from a PS4 primary console
Do not use the PS4 menu path Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4 to configure a PS5. PS4 activation is a separate feature with a separate menu. Sony’s activation guidance allows one PS5 and one PS4 to be active on the same account at the same time.

Troubleshoot sharing or a locked game
You cannot enable sharing
- Check whether Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on another PS5; if so, disable it there first.
- Check PlayStation service status, install available system software updates, verify the network connection, and restart the console.
Another user cannot access a game or benefit
- Confirm the account that enabled sharing purchased and downloaded the game or media.
- For subscription content, confirm the membership is active and that the content or benefit remains available and eligible for sharing.
- If a game shows a padlock, check for a license or network problem.
Restore licenses for a padlocked or missing item
On the PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then select the affected item or restore licenses as prompted. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect data and may help with a padlocked game (except when the PlayStation Plus membership has expired), a missing item, or a game that crashes. See How to restore licenses on PlayStation consoles.
