Eli Lilly’s U.S. weight-management portfolio includes two marketed medicines: Zepbound, an injectable form of tirzepatide, and Foundayo, an oral medicine. The company’s pipeline also includes investigational retatrutide, which has reported positive Phase 3 results but is not approved or available outside clinical trials. Lilly’s latest reported quarter in the figures available here, Q2 2026, showed company-wide revenue growth driven primarily by Mounjaro and Zepbound volume; it did not disclose those two products’ combined weight-loss-drug revenue in the cited release.
What weight-loss drugs does Eli Lilly make?
The products have different routes of administration and U.S. label descriptions. Zepbound and Foundayo are described by Lilly as chronic weight-management medicines for eligible adults. Mounjaro contains the same active ingredient as Zepbound, tirzepatide, but Lilly describes Mounjaro as a type 2 diabetes medicine; do not treat the two brand labels as interchangeable for an obesity indication.

How much money does Lilly make from Mounjaro and Zepbound?
Lilly’s Q2 2026 release reported $23.0 billion in total company revenue, up 48% from Q2 2025. Lilly said growth was driven primarily by Mounjaro and Zepbound volume. Across the company, volume rose 60% while realized prices fell 13%; the release does not establish how much of either change came from weight-management use, or provide a combined revenue figure for Mounjaro and Zepbound as weight-loss drugs.

Lilly reported $15.7 billion for its broader “Key Products” group, which includes medicines beyond obesity treatments. That figure is not a measure of weight-loss-drug sales. The company raised its 2026 full-year revenue guidance to $85.0 billion–$87.0 billion; this is management’s forecast, not reported revenue or a product-level sales estimate.
What is retatrutide, and is it approved?
Retatrutide is Lilly’s investigational, once-weekly molecule that activates GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors. It remains unapproved. Lilly says it is legally available only to people participating in clinical trials, so purported retail or compounded versions should not be represented as the approved Lilly medicine.

What Lilly reported from TRIUMPH-2
In its September 29, 2026 announcement, Lilly reported results from TRIUMPH-2, an 80-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 study in adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes. Participants in the 12 mg arm lost an average of 49.6 pounds (20.8%) at 80 weeks, according to Lilly; the company also reported an average A1C reduction of up to 1.6 percentage points. These are results for the trial’s studied population and dose, not a prediction of an individual patient’s outcome. Lilly said the results were presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting and published in The Lancet.

Lilly reported that the 9 mg and 12 mg arms of TRIUMPH-4 met the primary and key secondary endpoints at 68 weeks. The company announced up to 28.7% average weight loss and a 4.5-point reduction in WOMAC pain score; 84.0% of participants began with a BMI of at least 35 kg/m². The study involved people with obesity or overweight and knee osteoarthritis. These company-reported results concern a selected study population; retatrutide remains investigational.

Filing plans are not approvals
Lilly said its Phase 3 data package was complete to support global registration submissions for obesity, obstructive sleep apnea and knee osteoarthritis pain, and that it planned a U.S. biologics license application (BLA) submission in Q1 2027. That is a company-stated plan, not confirmation that a regulator has accepted a filing or approved the medicine. Lilly also described positive results from three additional Phase 3 obesity trials.

Lilly has also described eloralintide, an investigational amylin-receptor agonist, with Phase 3 obesity studies ongoing. A Phase 2 study examined eloralintide alone and in combination with tirzepatide; the company has also described the eloraTZP combination as investigational. These are pipeline programs, not marketed weight-loss options.

What the business figures and trial results do—and do not—show
- Commercial momentum is not a product-level sales breakdown. Q2 2026 figures are company-wide, and Lilly attributed growth primarily to Mounjaro and Zepbound volume. The disclosed totals do not isolate weight-loss revenue or establish how much Mounjaro use was for diabetes versus weight change.
- Volume and realized price moved in different directions. Lilly reported higher volume and lower realized prices overall in Q2 2026. The release’s figures do not show the product-specific contribution of each factor.
- Trial averages are not guaranteed outcomes. The retatrutide percentages and other outcomes belong to specified trial populations, doses and time periods, as reported by Lilly. They should not be used as individual treatment forecasts or as a head-to-head comparison with another medicine.
