Yes—WordPress sites have been targeted through Elementor-related vulnerabilities. The latest reported active-exploitation case concerns Elementor Pro, not every site using Elementor: it required a published Pro Form widget with a non-required File Upload field. Wordfence reportedly blocked more than 190,000 exploit attempts; that is an attempt count, not a count of hacked sites. If your site uses Elementor Pro, check your version and form configuration, then install the release Elementor identifies as patched for CVE-2026-32475.
What the reported Elementor Pro attack involved
A report published September 7, 2026 by TechRadar, describing Wordfence’s findings, covered CVE-2026-32475, an unrestricted file type upload vulnerability in Elementor Pro versions through 4.2.1. The reported prerequisite was a published page containing an Elementor Pro Form widget with at least one File Upload field that was not required.
Wordfence blocked more than 190,000 exploit attempts, according to the report. Attempts blocked do not show how many distinct sites were targeted, whether any attempt succeeded, or how many sites were compromised. The report says the issue was patched in mid-August 2026 but does not state the fixed version number.
How to check and reduce your site’s exposure
- Check whether Elementor Pro is installed and which version is active. In WordPress, open Plugins → Installed Plugins and find Elementor Pro. Record its version. The reported affected range is through 4.2.1, but do not infer the fixed release from that range alone.
- Check for the reported form setup. Review published pages for Elementor Pro Form widgets and determine whether any includes a File Upload field configured as not required. This is the configuration described in the active-exploitation report.
- Verify Elementor’s current fix and update. Consult Elementor’s current advisory or release notes for CVE-2026-32475, then update Elementor Pro to the release Elementor identifies as patched. The incident report gives patch timing, not the fixed version number. Back up the site before updating, and check that the update completes successfully.
- Review the site separately for signs of compromise. An update reduces exposure going forward; it does not establish that a site previously running an affected setup was never accessed. Check relevant account activity, unexpected files or changes, and security alerts, and escalate suspicious findings to your host or a qualified incident responder. The cited incident report does not provide a case-specific forensic checklist.
- Keep the wider WordPress installation maintained. Update WordPress, themes, plugins, and other components from their vendors, and follow the WordPress hardening guidance. General hardening complements but does not replace a vendor patch for a specific plugin flaw.
Does every Elementor vulnerability mean attackers are exploiting it?
No. Elementor’s listings in the Wordfence vulnerability database include patched disclosures from 2024 through 2026, covering issues such as stored cross-site scripting, missing authorization, sensitive information exposure, and file reads. A vulnerability entry documents a reported flaw and its patch status; it is not, by itself, evidence that attackers exploited that flaw in the wild.

When assessing a report, separate three questions: Was a vulnerability disclosed? Is there evidence of attempted exploitation? Is there evidence of a successful compromise? The 2026 report supports the second point for CVE-2026-32475, but its attempt count should not be presented as a hacked-site total.

Elementor-related security problems have appeared before, but their versions, prerequisites, and evidence should not be conflated with the 2026 Elementor Pro upload issue.

- In 2020, Wordfence described a campaign combining vulnerabilities in Elementor Pro and Ultimate Addons for Elementor; hosting logs confirmed active exploitation at that time. See Wordfence’s 2020 account.
- In December 2023, Wordfence reported an Elementor file-upload flaw affecting versions through 3.18.1 and said 3.18.2 supplied a sufficient patch after an earlier fix proved incomplete. That is a historical case, not the fixed-version guidance for CVE-2026-32475. See Wordfence’s 2023 report.
A separate 2024 Elementor Pro advisory
Elementor’s February 22, 2024 update addressed a different issue: exposure of encrypted author login/password information to malicious users with editing privileges. Elementor named Elementor Pro 3.19.3, or 3.21.0-cloud 1 for hosted websites, as resolving that issue and advised users to update to the latest version. Those version numbers apply to the 2024 advisory, not CVE-2026-32475. Details are in Elementor’s official security notice.

Administrators can use vulnerability alerts and security monitoring, such as resources from Wordfence, to keep track of new disclosures and suspicious activity. Monitoring is an additional layer: it does not install vendor fixes or prove that an already exposed site is clean.
