For a recipient in the same room, Quick Share is the simplest route on a Samsung Galaxy phone. It sends directly between nearby devices without using mobile data, and Samsung does not state a file size or file count limit for that nearby mode. If the recipient is elsewhere, Quick Share’s link, QR code and contact sends are capped by region and expire, so a large video is often better uploaded to Google Drive and shared as a link.
Choose a method by where the recipient is
The right route depends mainly on the recipient’s distance from you, the size of the video and whether they need to keep access to it afterwards. The table below compares the options using Samsung’s and Google’s published values. Where a value is not stated in those sources, the cell says so.
| Situation | Route | Mobile data | Size and count limits | What the recipient needs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recipient is in the same room with a compatible Galaxy or Android phone | Quick Share nearby transfer | Not used | No file size or file count limit stated by Samsung for nearby sharing | Quick Share enabled, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, and the phone unlocked and close by |
| Recipient is remote, and the video is within the regional cap | Quick Share link, QR code or contacts | Used (Wi-Fi or mobile data) | Regional; see the table in the remote section below | A link or QR code that has not expired |
| Recipient is remote and the file is larger than the Quick Share cap, or must stay available | Google Drive | Upload can use mobile data or be limited to Wi-Fi | Not stated in Google’s Android help for this purpose; the upload consumes your Drive storage | A Google account if access is restricted to specific people |
| Recipient is a nearby PC | Link to Windows or a USB data cable | Not used | Not stated by Samsung | A compatible PC and, for USB, a data-capable cable |
| Video is sensitive and small enough for the Private sharing cap | Quick Share Private sharing | Used for remote recipients | 20 files and 200 MB total per transfer | A Galaxy device, as the feature is limited to Galaxy phones |
Send to a nearby phone with Quick Share
Nearby transfers are the cleanest option for a video that is too large to text or email. Samsung’s support instructions describe the following sequence. Menu wording can differ by model, carrier and software version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Check that both phones support Quick Share and place them close together. Turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Quick Share on both devices.
- Open Gallery or My Files and select the video you want to send.
- Tap Share, then choose Quick Share. Some versions show Nearby Share wording or combine Quick Share into a single sharing sheet.
- When the recipient’s device appears, select it.
- On the recipient’s phone, accept the incoming transfer. Keep both devices unlocked and close until the transfer completes.
- On the recipient’s phone, open the received video and confirm that it plays before you delete the original from your device.
If the recipient’s phone does not appear
- Confirm that Quick Share is switched on for both phones and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled.
- Check the recipient’s discovery setting. Quick Share can show the phone as No one, Contacts only or Everyone, and the recipient’s phone must be visible to you for the transfer to appear.
- Move the phones closer together and keep both screens awake.
- Confirm that both devices are on a software version that supports Quick Share. Availability can vary by device, carrier and region.
Limit who can see your phone
Nearby discovery can make a phone visible to people around it. Samsung’s Galaxy support guidance recommends setting visibility to match the people you actually want to receive from. Choose Contacts only for regular contacts, or No one when you are not expecting a transfer, and switch back to a narrower setting once the video has been sent.

Send to someone who is not nearby
Quick Share can also send through a link, a QR code or your contacts. This route requires an internet connection, and it is subject to per-file and per-day caps that depend on the region of the sender. Samsung’s UK Quick Share FAQ and US Quick Share pages, as published in 2026, give different figures for these sends, so you should check the figures shown in your own Quick Share app before relying on them.
| Published figure | Samsung UK (Quick Share FAQ, 2026) | Samsung US (Quick Share page, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum file count per QR, link or contact transfer | Up to 1,000 files | Not stated |
| Maximum size per file | 10 GB | 3 GB |
| Maximum total per day | 10 GB | 5 GB |
| Link expiry | Two days | Not stated |
Because the two regional sets of figures conflict, neither should be treated as a universal Quick Share limit. If your video is close to the cap for your region, use Google Drive instead.

Samsung advises using Wi-Fi for large transfers. Its UK Quick Share FAQ states: “It is highly recommended to share large files through a Wi-Fi connection.” This matters most for link, QR and contact sends, which use Wi-Fi or mobile data, unlike nearby transfers.

Google Drive for larger or longer-lived sharing
Google Drive is the better choice when the video exceeds the Quick Share cap, or when the recipient needs to open the file again later. Google’s Android help supports uploading video files from the Drive app.

- Open the Google Drive app and use its upload option to select the video from your phone. Menu labels can vary with app version.
- In the Drive app’s transfer settings, choose whether uploads may use mobile data or should wait for Wi-Fi. For a large video, Wi-Fi is the safer choice.
- When the upload finishes, open the file’s sharing options and add the recipient’s account, or choose to share by link.
- Set the access level before sending. Limiting access to specific people means only those accounts can open the file. Choosing “anyone with the link” lets anyone who obtains the link open it, so use that option only for content you are comfortable making widely available.
Keep in mind that the upload occupies space in your Google account’s Drive storage, and the recipient’s ability to play the video depends on the file format, their connection and their device. Google’s help does not establish a single upload speed for every connection, so the time required will vary.
Use Private sharing only for small, sensitive videos
Private sharing adds controls that Quick Share does not: you can set an expiry time, and Samsung says the recipient can be prevented from screenshotting, saving or resending the shared files. Samsung lists MP4 among the supported video formats and says availability may vary by region.

The trade-off is size. Private sharing allows up to 20 files and 200 MB in total per transfer. Check the file size in Gallery or My Files before choosing this route; most long or high-resolution videos will exceed the cap, in which case Google Drive with restricted access is the more practical option.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSend to a nearby PC
Samsung’s support documentation names two ways to move a video to a PC: Link to Windows, and a USB cable. This is a local transfer method. It does not help a remote recipient, and Samsung’s material does not specify connector type, cable speed or compatibility for each Galaxy model.
