Most Samsung refrigerator shelves come out the same way: open the door fully, lift the front slightly, and slide the shelf forward. The glass shelf above the crisper drawers is the exception to watch for. Depending on the model, it may require removing the drawers first, and on some French door designs it releases from a divider and water-filter housing. Identify which type you have before you pull on anything.
Identify your shelf before you remove it
Samsung’s general instructions cover many shelves, but the shelf above the crisper drawers can be a simple removable shelf or a more involved assembly tied to the drawer divider and the water-filter housing. Samsung also states that steps can differ by model. If the shelf looks different from the description below, or it does not release as described, check the user manual for your exact model. Samsung’s US guide puts it plainly: “If something isn’t working or looks different, check your user manual for instructions specific to your fridge.” (Samsung US Support, shelf and drawer removal guide)

Remove an ordinary shelf
- Fully open the refrigerator door that holds the shelf.
- Hold the front edge of the shelf, gently lift it slightly, and slide it out. Avoid forcing it. Samsung Singapore specifically warns against lifting a shelf fully during removal or reinsertion. (Samsung Singapore Support, cleaning shelves and bins)
- Set the shelf on a clean, flat surface before cleaning it.
Reinstall an ordinary shelf
- Angle the shelf so its front edge is higher than its rear edge.
- Place the top hook into the upper notch.
- Lower the shelf until the bottom hook seats in the lower notch. (Samsung US Support)
- Check that the shelf sits level and locked before you load it. Samsung notes that for some model families a shelf must not be installed upside down, so confirm the front and back orientation as well. (Samsung Singapore Support)
Remove the shelf above the crisper drawers
Samsung describes at least two arrangements for this shelf, so do not assume one sequence fits every model.

Simple arrangement
- Fully open both doors.
- Remove the crisper drawers.
- Support one side of the shelf, lift it slightly, and slide it out with your other hand. (Samsung US Support)
Divider and water-filter arrangement
- Fully open the doors. If lower door bins block the drawers, remove those bins first.
- Angle both crisper drawers toward the center as you slide them out.
- Locate the tabs on both sides of the drawer divider and water-filter housing.
- Hold the housing and press the tabs inward.
- Lift the shelf out of the housing.
- Gently lift and pull the shelf free from the rear wall. Angling one side downward can help it clear the opening.

If the door will not open fully, one Samsung Singapore care page covering RH62, RS58 and RS62 models describes sliding the shelf halfway forward and turning it over to remove it. Separate glass from a plastic frame
Only some glass shelves are designed to come apart. Check the rear corners first. If you see retaining clips there, the shelf can be separated. If you do not, it is not designed to come apart, and you should not try to force it.
Shelves with retaining clips
- Remove the shelf and turn it over.
- Lift one rear corner slightly.
- Press the tab nearest the center of the shelf and release the clip.
- Repeat on the other side, then lift the glass out of the frame.
- Reassemble by reversing these steps. (Samsung US Support; Samsung Gulf Support)
Damaged clips cannot be replaced one at a time. Samsung Gulf states the entire shelf must be replaced in that case. Before you order a part, confirm the full refrigerator model and the shelf position, because the sources reviewed do not establish a single universal replacement part number.

Shelves without removable clips
Some shelves are not designed to separate. Samsung’s guidance for these is to clean them rather than take them apart. Do not pry a non-separable frame open. If trapped debris remains after cleaning, Samsung says to soak the shelf in a water and bleach solution. If that does not clean it sufficiently, Samsung says the shelf must be replaced. The sources reviewed do not give a bleach ratio or soak time, so follow the strength on your bleach label and rinse thoroughly.

Clean the glass safely
- Let a cold glass shelf reach room temperature before washing it.
- Wash with lukewarm water. Do not use warm or hot water on cold glass, because a sudden temperature change can cause damage. Samsung directs lukewarm water for this purpose. (Samsung US Support)
- Dry the shelf before reinstalling it.
Safety and model-specific caveats
- Handle glass with care. Tempered glass can break and cause injury. Samsung Australia also describes these shelves as heavy, so use both hands and support the full weight. (Samsung Australia Support, French door shelves and bins)
- Freezer shelves differ. Some freezer shelves vary in length. Samsung Singapore warns against changing their positions on normal models, because doing so may damage the appliance when the door closes.
- Do not improvise on a stuck shelf. If the shelf resists, the tabs look different, the frame is unfamiliar, or the door opening is restricted, stop and check the manual for your exact model.

- Most ordinary shelves release by lifting the front slightly and sliding the shelf out.
- When reinstalling, engage the top hook first, then lower the bottom hook into its notch.
- A crisper-area shelf may require drawer removal and release of tabs at the divider and water-filter housing.
- Only glass shelves with retaining clips separate from the frame. Never force a non-separable design.
- Clean cold glass with lukewarm water after it reaches room temperature.
Samsung’s shelf and drawer guidance is organized by model, and the labels on your shelf and the owner’s manual for your refrigerator will always tell you more than a general guide can.
