A blinking blue eero usually means it is waiting to pair with the eero app during setup. If it started after a soft reset, eero says it may instead be trying to reconnect while the internet is unavailable. No light can mean the status LED is disabled—or that the unit is not getting power. The right fix depends on when the light changed, so check the app and connections before resetting the device.
What does the eero light mean?
eero’s status-light guide lists these common states. Blinking blue has an additional documented meaning after a soft reset, so consider what the device was doing when the light appeared.
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No light | The status light may be disabled, or the eero may not have power. | Check the app’s Status light setting, then check the power connection. |
| Flashing blue | Bluetooth pairing during setup; after a soft reset without internet, it may be trying to reconnect. | Use the setup flow if adding a device. If it is an existing gateway, check modem service and its Ethernet connection. |
| Solid blue | Ready for setup. | Continue in the eero app. |
| Flashing white | Connecting or booting. | Allow startup to continue; consult the model-specific guide if it does not progress. |
| Solid white | Online. | The eero reports that it is online. |
| Solid red | Offline. | Check the upstream connection and run the app’s network health check. |
| Flashing red | Resetting. | Allow the reset process to finish. |
For the official definitions, see eero’s flashing-blue guide and LED color reference.
If the eero is blinking blue during setup
During setup, blinking blue indicates Bluetooth pairing. Start or resume the add-eero process in the app and keep your phone close to the eero while the app searches. If discovery does not work, use the barcode-scanning option if the app offers it, then follow the registration prompts.

If you are adding a satellite eero and the app reports that its placement is poor or out of range, move it closer to another eero and repeat the placement step. Placement guidance applies to adding a satellite; it will not repair a gateway’s failed connection to the modem or internet.
See eero’s instructions for adding or removing eeros and setup guide. Avoid repeatedly resetting a new device when the app’s setup prompts have not been completed.

If an existing eero started blinking blue after a reset or outage
In this situation, blinking blue may indicate that the eero is trying to reconnect but does not have internet service. Check the modem or ONT and the Ethernet cable between it and the gateway eero before changing settings.
- Confirm that the modem or ONT is powered on and has service. Check that the Ethernet cable between it and the gateway eero is firmly connected at both ends.
- Restart the modem by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then reconnecting it. eero’s troubleshooting instructions say to allow 2–3 minutes for the modem to restart.
- Open the eero app and follow any reconnect prompts. If the internet service itself is down, eero says the blue light may continue flashing until service returns.
- If the network remains offline, run the app’s health check and use its suggested next steps to determine whether to contact your ISP or eero Support.
The durations above are eero’s troubleshooting instructions, not a guarantee that a modem or internet outage will be resolved within that time. See eero’s flashing-blue troubleshooting steps.

How to check a no-light eero
A dark LED does not by itself prove the eero is broken. Check the status-light setting first, then work through the power supply and outlet.
- In the eero app, select the device and check its Status light setting. Enable the light if it has been turned off.
- Reseat the power connection at the eero and at the outlet. Try a known-good wall outlet and bypass any power strip or surge protector.
- Inspect the power adapter for visible damage. If testing a replacement supply, use one rated at the same wattage or higher and appropriate for that exact eero model; there is no universal adapter recommendation for every model.
These checks follow eero’s instructions for an LED that is off.

Run the app’s network health check if more than the light is wrong
If devices are offline or the network is not working normally, use the eero app’s health check rather than diagnosing the problem from the LED alone. The documented path is Settings > Troubleshooting. The tool checks for offline internet and other listed problems, then offers suggested next steps. App labels can change; if that path differs in your version, look under Troubleshooting in Settings. See eero’s network health check guide.
Restart before considering a reset
Unplugging and reconnecting an eero is a restart. A hard reset is different: eero says it clears user data and logs and removes the device from the network, so you may need to add it again in the app. A reset cannot restore an ISP connection that is down or fix a power supply that is not delivering power.
If simpler checks have not helped and a reset is appropriate, follow the instructions for your specific model. Button locations and reset behavior can vary; do not assume every eero has the reset button in the same place. eero’s reboot and reset guide explains the options and their consequences.
