Verdict: Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) is a WordPress plugin built primarily for selling downloadable products, such as software, ebooks, music, courses, and templates. Its pricing page lists a free Lite edition and four annual paid plans, but promotional prices have varied across page snapshots. Check the live plan comparison and checkout for the current first-year price, renewal cost, and terms before buying.
What Easy Digital Downloads is—and what it is not
Easy Digital Downloads is an e-commerce plugin for WordPress stores centered on digital files. EDD’s introduction and key terms documentation names software, ebooks, music, courses, templates, and other downloadable files as examples.
It can also support simple physical products through its Simple Shipping functionality, but that is an additional use case—not evidence that EDD is a full general-purpose physical-goods platform. For a store that mainly sells shipped products, assess the shipping and product workflows you need before choosing it.

Easy Digital Downloads pricing and plans
EDD’s official pricing page lists free Lite and four annual paid tiers. The paid plans advertise unlimited products and differ in site activations and included features. The table summarizes the plan structure and the annual prices shown in page crawls; those promotional snapshots conflict and are not a reliable quote for today’s checkout.
| Plan | Site activations listed | Annual price evidence | How to assess it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | Not stated in the cited pricing summary | Free; EDD says it is available through WordPress.org | Consider it if the Lite feature set covers the store’s needs. |
| Personal | 1 | Promotional snapshots: $79.60 or $99.50 per year; regular annual price shown: $199 | Entry-level paid feature set for one site. |
| Extended | 1 | Promotional snapshots: $159.60 or $199.50 per year; regular annual price shown: $399 | One site, with a broader set of store tools than Personal. |
| Professional | 2 | Promotional snapshots: $209.65 or $299.50 per year; regular annual price shown: $599 | Two sites; the feature list includes software licensing and marketplace-oriented capabilities. |
| All Access | 3 | Promotional snapshots: $349.65 or $499.50 per year; regular annual price shown: $999 | Three sites and the broadest included feature set. |
Prices are annual figures displayed in crawls of EDD’s pricing page, not a guarantee of the amount charged now. The crawls showed different promotions, and one noted that introductory pricing may renew at the full price. Before purchase, use the live comparison and checkout to confirm the current charge, renewal amount, taxes, and guarantee terms.

How to choose a plan
Start with the store requirements, not the plan name. EDD’s pricing page is the controlling source for which features are currently included in each tier; confirm the exact feature bundle there before subscribing.
- Count the WordPress sites. The listed allowances are one site for Personal and Extended, two for Professional, and three for All Access. If you need more activations, verify the current terms rather than assuming a plan can be shared across additional sites.
- Identify required extensions. Check whether you need subscriptions, software licensing, marketplace tools, shipping, or another extension, then find the tier that explicitly includes it. Do not assume every paid plan has the same capabilities.
- Compare annual cost with renewal cost. A promotional first-year price can make a plan look less expensive than its subsequent renewal. Decide using the recurring price if you expect to keep the store running.
- Check support terms. EDD’s plans may distinguish support levels. Review the live plan details to see which level applies and whether it suits your support needs.
Products, pricing options, and store features
Product types and bundles
EDD’s product creation guide describes downloadable products, bundles, and services. A bundle groups products; a service is a product type that does not provide downloadable files. Product setup includes a title, description, image, uploaded files where applicable, and pricing.
Rank #3
Variable pricing
For a product with several purchase options, EDD’s variable pricing guide describes setting options within a single product rather than creating separate related listings. Its examples include letting a buyer choose individual music tracks or an album, and offering different license levels, such as personal, business, or developer.
Payments, delivery, subscriptions, and reporting
EDD describes capabilities including payment processing, discount codes, reporting, integrations, file-delivery controls, content restriction, software licensing, and subscriptions on its features page. These are vendor-described features; the specific plan required for each should be checked in the current comparison table.
EDD’s subscriptions and billing page describes recurring plans, trials, and custom billing intervals, with examples such as software, course memberships, and access to content. If recurring billing is central to your store, confirm both that the feature suits your billing model and that it is included in the plan you intend to buy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWho should consider EDD?
- Consider Lite if its current capabilities cover your digital-product store and you do not need a paid-plan feature.
- Consider a paid tier when a specific included feature, site allowance, or support level meets a concrete requirement that Lite does not.
- Check the higher tiers carefully if you need software licensing or marketplace-related capabilities; confirm those tools and their terms in the live plan comparison.
- Look beyond EDD’s download-focused positioning if your store is primarily based on shipping physical goods or requires shipping workflows beyond its Simple Shipping support.
EDD’s feature page displays “Over 50,000+ Businesses” and a 566-review, 4.7 rating summary. Those are figures reported on the vendor’s page; the cited material does not establish their date basis, review source, or calculation method, so they should not be treated as independently verified measures of adoption or customer satisfaction.
What this review can—and cannot—establish
The cited documentation supports EDD’s intended digital-download use case, its product configuration options, and the vendor’s description of features. It does not establish through independent testing how easy or reliable the plugin is, whether it increases sales, how responsive support is, or how it compares with a named alternative. Base a decision on your required workflow, the current plan details, and the terms shown at checkout.
