Yes, if you held off because Dune: Awakening seemed too multiplayer-focused or punishing. Funcom says the September 22, 2026 console update lets you play the full game solo, tune survival difficulty, avoid PvP and reach the end of Book One. It also brings substantial progression and combat changes. That makes it a credible reason to try the game on PS5 or Xbox—but the performance figures available are publisher claims, not independent test results.
Can you play the whole game alone?
Funcom says the full game, its content and its features are playable in single-player. The mode is more than multiplayer switched off: systems that depend on competition have been adapted, and late-game crafting requires fewer rare materials to make progression more accessible for solo players. In the Landsraad, for example, the game simulates rival players competing for objectives. Xbox Wire and the PlayStation Blog describe the mode as designed to make the game’s systems work in a single-player format.
Difficulty is adjustable through presets and individual gameplay settings. Funcom lists controls for factors such as harvesting rates, experience gain and death penalties, as well as sandstorms and other settings. That flexibility is a practical draw if you want to focus on exploration and story rather than the default survival demands.

Can you avoid PvP, and what else changed?
According to the publisher, PvP is optional. The Deep Desert has separate PvE and PvP instances; the PvP version offers greater risk and reward. You can therefore explore without choosing the player-versus-player environment, though the available sources do not establish every detail of how matchmaking or instance selection works.

The September 22, 2026 update brought the console release to PS5 and Xbox and was also made available on PC. Bandai Namco says the console build includes PC additions and enhancements made over the prior 15 months. The update’s larger package matters because the solo mode arrives alongside story, progression and combat changes—not as the sole new feature. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement describes the release and its broader feature set.
Story and progression
The update concludes Book One, giving the opening story arc a conclusion. It also makes Landsraad progression mission-driven and introduces Specializations and Augmentations. Xbox Wire’s Funcom-authored overview specifies twenty Landsraad ranks, seven mission locations on Arrakis and six Imperial Testing Stations. Augmentations modify unique Tier 6 weapons and armor. Those are publisher-listed features and counts, not independent judgments of the content’s depth or quality.

Other additions and refinements include new maps and dungeons, reduced loss friction, more accessible late-game crafting for solo players, and refined melee combat. Together, these changes give returning players more than a new way to enter the existing game, although the available sources do not establish how satisfying the new activities or combat feel in practice.
