To delete a Dropbox computer backup from Windows 11, open the Dropbox desktop app and go to Preferences > Backups > Manage backups > Delete backup, then confirm. If you can’t access the computer, Dropbox says to unlink that device from your account instead. Removing the backup from Dropbox does not delete files stored locally on the PC.
Choose the route that matches your access to the PC

Delete the backup from the Dropbox desktop app
- Click the Dropbox icon in the Windows taskbar.
- Open the round account menu. It may display a profile photo, initials, or a person icon.
- Select Preferences > Backups > Manage backups.
- Choose Delete backup for the computer you want to remove, then confirm the deletion.
Dropbox requires its desktop app for this procedure. If you removed the app, reinstall it before following the steps. The current Windows instructions apply to customers on all Dropbox plans. [Dropbox Help]
What deleting a computer backup changes
Deletion removes the backup from your Dropbox account, not the files on your PC or an external hard drive. Dropbox Backup keeps a copy in Dropbox; it is not downloaded into the Dropbox folder shown in Windows File Explorer. Recovery depends on your Dropbox plan
Dropbox says recently deleted files and folders may be restorable for 30 or 180 days, depending on the plan. That range is for deleted files and folders; it is not a universal promise that an entire deleted computer backup can be restored for either period. Dropbox says recovery of a deleted backup follows the data-retention period for your plan. Check your plan’s retention terms before deleting if you may need the backup again. [Dropbox Help]
If the menu labels don’t match
Dropbox has described both older and updated Backup interfaces, and controls may vary between them. Its preferences guide identifies the Backups tab as the place to manage computer backups and refers to the computer as This PC.
