Yes, an encoder can send a prerecorded video to YouTube Live repeatedly, but YouTube’s official guidance does not give blanket approval specifically for looping the same video. Whether a stream can run technically is separate from whether its content complies with YouTube’s rules or qualifies for monetization. The loop is created by the encoder or streaming service sending the broadcast—not by repeatedly playing a regular YouTube upload.
How looping a video in a YouTube live stream works
An encoder sends audio and video to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key configured in YouTube Studio. The encoder or hosted streaming workflow repeats the prerecorded video and transmits that feed as a live broadcast. YouTube’s documentation explains encoder-based streaming, but does not describe a watch-page control that turns an ordinary uploaded video into a live stream.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the liveStream resource, which holds delivery settings for an encoder, from the liveBroadcast resource, which represents the event viewers see. That technical distinction explains how a feed reaches a broadcast; it does not settle whether a particular repeated video complies with policy. See Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API explanation of broadcasts and streams.
What YouTube’s rules mean for a repeated live video
Live-stream access
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming tips and eligibility guidance before preparing the broadcast.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Copyright and permission
Use footage, music, and other material you own or have permission to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions require compliance with its Community Guidelines and the necessary rights to use live content on Google services.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If a match remains after a warning, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and, where relevant, ask the rights holder about allowlisting before going live.

Monetization is a separate decision
A stream that runs successfully is not automatically eligible to earn money. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams. Its policy describes repetitive or mass-produced content as inauthentic and says monetized content should be original and offer viewers value. That creates a monetization risk for repetitive programming, but it is not an automatic finding that every repeated live feed is prohibited. YouTube clarified its terminology and policy on July 15, 2025; see YouTube channel monetization policies.
Set up a loop using an encoder
The exact controls depend on the encoder or streaming service you choose. YouTube’s documented workflow is to configure a stream in YouTube Studio and send it from an encoder; YouTube does not prescribe one universal looping procedure.

- Confirm eligibility and rights. Verify that your channel can live stream, and make sure you have rights to all video and audio in the recording.
- Prepare the repeating feed. In your encoder or hosted workflow, select the prerecorded video and configure it to repeat. Check the finished feed before broadcasting so you know what viewers will see and hear at the transition between repetitions.
- Get the connection details in YouTube Studio. Open the live-stream setup and use the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. YouTube documents these settings in Manage live stream settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Connect the encoder and start the broadcast. Enter the YouTube connection details in the encoder, start sending the feed, and confirm that the broadcast appears correctly in YouTube before relying on it to run unattended.
- Monitor for interruptions. Watch for encoder disconnections, YouTube warnings, and copyright matches. If YouTube flags third-party content, follow its notice and resolve the rights issue rather than assuming that the loop will continue uninterrupted.
Choose between a computer and a hosted service
A locally run software encoder gives you direct control, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection have to remain available for the stream to continue. A hosted service can run the feed in the cloud instead, reducing dependence on equipment and connectivity at home. Either approach still sends a live stream to YouTube and remains subject to YouTube’s eligibility, copyright, and monetization requirements.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops what you uploaded, streams it as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
