Yes—some wireless HDMI transmitter-and-receiver kits support 4K, HDR, and surround sound, but support varies by model and by output. Check the remote receiver’s resolution and refresh rate, the exact HDR formats, and the audio formats passed through. A transmitter’s local HDMI loop-out can support 4K while the remote display receives only 1080p.

What to check before choosing a wireless HDMI kit

Treat video resolution, HDR, and audio as separate compatibility questions. A general “4K” or “HDR” label does not establish that every feature reaches the remote screen or that multichannel audio passes through.

  • Remote video output: Confirm the receiver’s HDMI output supports the resolution and refresh rate you need. Do not infer remote 4K support from a transmitter’s local loop-out specification.
  • HDR format: Look for named formats such as HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision, and verify support at the relevant input and output. A broad “HDR” claim may not identify which formats work.
  • Audio passthrough: Check the supported formats and channel count. Two-channel PCM is not the same as Dolby Atmos or DTS passthrough. The connected TV or AV receiver also needs to support the format it is expected to decode.
  • Latency and range: Compare the stated delay and distance, including whether range applies only in line of sight or also through walls. Maximum range claims are not interchangeable with through-wall performance.
  • Signal chain and content: Check HDCP support and compatibility across the source, wireless kit, display, and any AV receiver. Some product pages also list streaming-service restrictions.

How manufacturer specifications differ

These examples are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. They show why checking each output and feature matters.

Kit Video and HDR Audio Latency and range Availability noted on manufacturer page
Marmitek TV Anywhere Wireless 4K LL Up to 4096×2160 or 3840×2160 at 60 Hz; HDMI 2.0; HDR and HDR10; HDCP 2.2. The manufacturer describes 4K up to 60 Hz. Manufacturer says Dolby Atmos and DTS pass through to a TV or receiver. 16–48 ms, depending on environment; up to 50 m line of sight and approximately 20 m through walls or ceilings, according to the manufacturer. Availability can change; check the current listing.
SIIG CE-H26G11-S2 The transmitter’s local HDMI loop-out supports up to 4K60 HDR; the remote receiver output is up to 1080p60. The page describes the receiver as Full HD. Two-channel audio. About 100 ms; up to 150 m line of sight is stated, with SIIG warning that walls, interference, and surroundings can reduce actual distance. Page showed the model unavailable or backordered when accessed on 2026-10-04.
OREI WUHD-PRO Overview material advertises 4K60 and HDR, but the detailed table marks HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision unsupported. Verify this discrepancy with the manufacturer. Two-channel PCM. Up to 200 ms latency and 100 feet line of sight, according to the product page. Page showed the product unavailable or sold out when accessed on 2026-10-04.
IOGEAR GWLR4K60KIT Manufacturer lists 3840×2160 at 60 Hz and HDCP 2.2, with H.264 video compression. L/R stereo PCM; the listed specification does not establish surround support. Less than 200 ms latency; the product page lists up to 600 feet. Manufacturer marks it end-of-life and no longer sold.

Can wireless HDMI carry Dolby Atmos or other surround sound?

It can when the particular kit explicitly supports the required audio format and passes it through. Marmitek says its TV Anywhere Wireless 4K LL passes Dolby Atmos and DTS to a TV or receiver. By contrast, OREI’s WUHD-PRO lists two-channel PCM, and SIIG’s CE-H26G11-S2 lists two-channel audio; those specifications do not establish multichannel surround passthrough.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The receiving equipment matters too. For example, Onkyo lists Dolby Atmos and DTS:X playback for its TX-NR6050 with a compatible surround system. That receiver capability does not certify a wireless HDMI kit: the source, kit, and receiving equipment must all support the intended signal.

Will a wireless HDMI signal work through walls?

Sometimes, but through-wall range is a separate condition from line-of-sight range. Marmitek lists up to 50 m in open space and approximately 20 m through walls or ceilings. OREI lists up to 100 feet line of sight. SIIG lists up to 150 m line of sight and cautions that walls, partitions, interference, and building layout can substantially shorten usable distance. Treat each figure as a manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a guarantee for your room.

How to verify a 4K wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver kit

  1. Find the remote receiver’s output specification. Confirm the exact resolution and refresh rate at that HDMI port. If you need 4K60 on the distant display, a 4K loop-out on the transmitter is not enough.
  2. Match the HDR format to your equipment. Check the named formats for the source and display, and resolve any conflict between overview text and a detailed specification table before buying.
  3. Confirm audio formats end to end. Look for explicit Dolby Atmos, DTS, or other required passthrough support, then confirm that the connected TV or AV receiver can decode or play that format.
  4. Check distance under your conditions. Compare line-of-sight and through-wall claims with your room layout; account for obstacles and possible interference.
  5. Check HDCP, source, and content compatibility. Confirm the full chain supports the relevant protection standard. OREI’s WUHD-PRO page warns of incompatibility with Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, and Sky Go; check the specific kit’s current restrictions for the services you use.
  6. Verify current availability and lifecycle. Product listings change, and a kit with suitable specifications may be unavailable or discontinued. IOGEAR marks the GWLR4K60KIT end-of-life; OREI and SIIG listings also showed availability limitations when accessed on 2026-10-04.
