For demanding games, it can be. In Notebookcheck’s gaming test, published October 8, 2026, the Redmi Note 17 Pro averaged 31.9 fps in Genshin Impact at its lowest listed setting, and its PUBG Mobile averages ranged from 39.8 fps to 58.6 fps depending on the graphics preset. If you want high, steady frame rates in heavy titles, that is a real limitation. For casual or lighter gaming, the same evidence does not establish a dealbreaker. The weakness shown is limited graphics performance rather than heat-driven slowdown: the same publication’s full review found the phone barely throttles in its stress tests.
What Notebookcheck measured
Notebookcheck’s gaming test covers three games on a 256GB UFS 3.1 REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G with a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset and Adreno 710 GPU. Xiaomi India lists the 128GB variant with UFS 2.2 storage, and the cited results do not identify the 128GB model, so do not assume the figures carry over to it. The article also includes a POCO X8 Pro as a comparison device.
| Game and setting | Redmi Note 17 Pro: average (observed range) | POCO X8 Pro: average (comparison) |
|---|---|---|
| Genshin Impact, lowest listed setting (labelled 120-fps mode in the test) | 31.9 fps (18–34 fps) | 59.5 fps at its highest listed 120-fps setting |
| PUBG Mobile, Smoothest | 58.3 fps (35–61 fps) | 117.9 fps |
| PUBG Mobile, HD | 58.6 fps (32–61 fps) | 89.1 fps |
| PUBG Mobile, Ultra HD | 39.8 fps (36–41 fps) | 59.7 fps |
| Dead Trigger 2 (setting not stated in the source) | 88.5 fps (59–105 fps) | 112.5 fps |
These are one publication’s measurements on one test date, not guarantees. Frame rates depend on firmware, the game’s version, and the settings you choose. The POCO column is not a controlled head-to-head: the source does not use identical settings in every row, so read it as a directional comparison.

How to read the frame-rate numbers
- Averages hide the dips. In Genshin Impact, the Redmi Note 17 Pro’s observed range was 18–34 fps, so the average of 31.9 fps sits near the top of its low-end swings.
- Graphics settings move the result more than the phone’s label does. In PUBG Mobile, moving from HD to Ultra HD cut the average from 58.6 fps to 39.8 fps, a drop of about 19 fps. The source does not explain why Smoothest and HD land so close together.
- A 120Hz screen is not a 120-fps game. The display’s refresh capability describes what the panel can show, not what the processor and GPU can render in a given game.
Performance versus heat: where the weakness sits
The concern in this test is graphics capability, not thermal throttling. Notebookcheck’s full review reports a maximum measured surface temperature of 44.7°C under load and 99.4% stability in the 3DMark Wild Life stress test, with 92% stability in Wild Life Extreme. The review says the handset barely throttles in those 3DMark stress tests. A phone that holds its clock under heat but still renders slowly points to the GPU rather than cooling as the limit.

That stress-test result has a boundary. It does not prove how every long gaming session behaves, and it is not a game-specific measurement.
The same review’s GFXBench results are benchmark-specific, not game frame rates. They show 48 fps in Manhattan 1080p offscreen and 14 fps in Aztec Ruins High Tier onscreen. Use them to compare graphics capability across phones, not to predict how a given game will feel.

What Xiaomi promises, and what was measured
Xiaomi India’s specification page lists the phone with a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, an Adreno GPU, a display refresh rate up to 120Hz, a 9000mAh typical silicon-carbon battery, and 67W charging. Its product page promotes smooth, lag-free performance across gaming, streaming, and video calls. Treat that as a manufacturer claim. It describes everyday responsiveness, and the independent gaming numbers above show where heavier titles fall short of it.
Is it a dealbreaker for your situation?
If you play demanding titles at high frame rates
Probably yes. The cited averages in Genshin Impact and at PUBG Mobile’s Ultra HD preset are well below what a high-refresh display invites you to expect. If smoothness is the reason you are buying, a phone that is measured here at roughly 40 to 60 fps in these settings may disappoint.

If you play mid-weight games at moderate settings
The evidence is more favourable. The PUBG Mobile averages at Smoothest and HD, and the Dead Trigger 2 average, sit in the 58 to 88 fps range in the cited test. That is a reasonable basis for a purchase decision, but the test covers only three games, so check your own title before relying on it.
If you mainly use the phone for other tasks
The gaming test does not address everyday responsiveness, battery behaviour, or camera use. Judge those on their own evidence rather than extending the gaming result to them.

Checks before you buy
- Confirm the storage variant. The cited gaming results are for 256GB UFS 3.1, and Xiaomi lists UFS 2.2 for 128GB.
- Check the graphics preset in your game, since the same game can differ by more than 19 fps across settings.
- Compare on the same game and setting, and look at sustained stability and graphics quality as well as average frame rate.
- Confirm regional pricing and availability. The cited sources do not establish current prices or where the POCO X8 Pro is sold, though the POCO X8 Pro posts the higher frame rates in the listed results.
Package contents, including the case and charger that Xiaomi lists for India, may differ by region.
