Yes—if you already own one in good condition, or you’re buying a carefully inspected unit and will regularly use its large inner screen. The original Google Pixel Fold still has active software support, but that support is finite, and the condition of a three-year-old foldable’s inner display, hinge, and battery matters more than its original launch claims. If you mostly use a phone closed or need predictable repair costs, a newer conventional phone is the safer daily-driver choice.
How long will the original Pixel Fold get updates?
Google’s policy gives the original Pixel Fold five years of operating-system and security updates, counted from when it first became available on the Google Store in the US—not from the date a used buyer purchases it. Google says feature drops may also be included during the applicable period. The newer seven-year commitment for later Pixel models does not extend the original Fold’s policy. Google’s Pixel update policy does not establish an exact final update date for every region.
Verizon’s update history lists a Pixel Fold release dated September 15, 2026, with software version CP3A.260905.009 and the September 2026 Android security patch. That record is specific to Verizon; rollout timing can vary by carrier and market. On a particular phone, check Settings > System > Software updates and confirm its carrier and region. Verizon’s Pixel Fold update history also notes a graphics-performance and temperature fix among other corrections.
What still makes it useful day to day?
The Fold’s defining benefit is its change of shape: closed, it is a compact phone; open, its inner display gives you more room for reading, video, and using apps side by side. That is a real advantage if you unfold it often, not simply because the larger screen is available.

These are Google’s product specifications, not a comparison with current phones. The Tensor G2 and camera hardware are from an older generation, and the available specifications do not establish how the Fold performs against 2026 models under matched conditions. Confirm the exact regional configuration and carrier-band compatibility of a used device. Google’s Pixel Fold technical specifications list the hardware, Qi-certified wireless charging, and fast wired charging with a separately sold 30 W USB-C PD 3.0 PPS charger.
What should you check before relying on one every day?
Inspect the inner display and hinge
Look over the full inner panel in bright light, including the crease and edges. Test touch response across the screen, then open and close the phone several times. Check whether the hinge moves evenly and the phone opens as expected; listen and feel for snagging or popping. Ars Technica’s 2023 review discussed the exposed perimeter around the inner display’s plastic protector and individual reports of broken units. Those qualitative observations do not establish a failure rate or predict the condition of a particular phone. Ars Technica’s Pixel Fold review is historical context, not a reliability statistic.

Check battery condition on the actual unit
Google listed a 4,727 mAh minimum battery capacity and described battery life as “beyond 24 hours” at launch. That runtime was an estimate based on preproduction hardware and software; it is not a guarantee for a used phone in 2026. Battery health depends on the individual unit. Test charging and observe everyday drain rather than treating the launch estimate as evidence of present-day endurance.

Ars Technica reported in September 2023 that an inner-display repair kit included the display, surrounding frame and sides, hinge, buttons, fingerprint sensor, and wiring. That history signals repair complexity, not today’s price or local service availability. The article’s historical $900 figure is not a current repair quote. Before buying, contact an authorized service provider in your region to ask whether it will accept that exact device, what parts are available, and what a current repair would cost. How to assess a used Pixel Fold before buying
- Ask for the exact model and storage, original purchase region, carrier or unlocked status, update screen, and proof of ownership.
- Inspect the inner screen and hinge as described above. Test the cover display too, and verify touch response across both screens.
- Test the cameras, fingerprint reader, USB-C port, wireless charging, speakers, microphones, mobile network, and Wi-Fi. Check battery charging and drain during normal use.
- Get the return terms and warranty coverage in writing. Confirm local repair eligibility and obtain a current estimate before deciding that a low asking price is a bargain.
- Compare the specific phone’s price and condition with a newer phone or foldable. Weigh remaining updates, battery condition, how often you will use the inner display, camera needs, ergonomics, repair access, and network compatibility.
A return window matters because no specification sheet can establish the health of an individual used Fold. Do not assume that a case removes the risk to the hinge or inner display.

Who should keep, buy, or pass?
- Keep yours if it is healthy and the inner screen is part of your routine. The available policy and Verizon update record show support continuing in 2026.
- Consider buying used if you value the wide cover-screen design and large inner display, can inspect the individual phone, and have meaningful return protection and a repair path.
- Pass if you mostly use a closed phone, cannot verify the screen and hinge, or need a low-risk daily phone with predictable repair support. A newer conventional phone may be a better fit if the foldable screen would rarely be used.
