Yes. Nintendo Switch 2 supports NVIDIA DLSS upscaling and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, according to NVIDIA. The console launched on June 5, 2025. These are platform capabilities, not settings every game is guaranteed to use: resolution, frame rate, DLSS and ray tracing vary by title.
What DLSS and ray tracing do on Switch 2
DLSS upscaling
NVIDIA says the Switch 2 processor includes Tensor Cores that support DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling. DLSS uses AI to upscale an image, aiming to improve apparent detail while rendering at a lower resolution. Whether a game uses DLSS, and how it implements it, depends on that game.

Hardware ray tracing
The processor also includes dedicated RT Cores for real-time ray tracing. NVIDIA describes these cores as enabling more realistic lighting, reflections and shadows. Their presence does not mean every Switch 2 game uses ray tracing; implementation and visual results are game-specific.
Resolution, frame rate and display features
NVIDIA lists maximum system capabilities of up to 4K gaming in TV mode and up to 1080p at 120 frames per second in handheld mode. The handheld display is 7.9 inches, according to Nintendo. NVIDIA also lists HDR and handheld variable refresh rate through NVIDIA G-SYNC.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
These figures are ceilings, not universal game targets or a promise that a game will run at its maximum resolution and frame rate simultaneously. Individual titles can use lower resolutions or frame rates, and the available features depend on each game. NVIDIA also says the system delivers ten times the graphics performance of the original Nintendo Switch; that is NVIDIA’s platform-level comparison, not a guarantee of a tenfold improvement in every game.
What to consider before buying
Choose based on the games you want to play
DLSS and ray tracing are useful features to look for, but they do not tell you exactly how a particular game will look or run. Check the game’s own specifications and reviews for its resolution, frame-rate target and use of these features. For an upgrade from the original Switch, also check whether your existing games are compatible: Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Switch games, but warns that some titles may not be supported or fully compatible.
