Yes. Microsoft pays a regular cash dividend on its common stock four times a year. How Microsoft’s dividend works
Microsoft distributes dividends as cash payments to holders of its common stock. The company normally makes four regular quarterly payments. For each dividend, Microsoft announces a per-share amount, a record date, an ex-dividend date and a payable date. The board of directors must declare each payment; a past increase does not legally guarantee the next one.
Microsoft’s investor-relations dividend page is the authoritative place to check the latest amount and the dates for a particular quarter. It also provides a historical lookup. A brokerage account may display the same information, but investors should confirm an upcoming payment against Microsoft’s own announcement because dates and declarations can change.

- Declaration date: The board announces the dividend amount and schedule.
- Record date: Microsoft identifies the shareholders entitled to receive that dividend.
- Ex-dividend date: The stock begins trading without the right to the upcoming dividend. Buying on or after this date generally means the seller, not the buyer, receives that payment under standard U.S. market rules.
- Payable date: The cash is scheduled to be delivered to eligible shareholders’ accounts.
The exact next ex-dividend date is time-sensitive and is not established by the historical figures in this article. Check the current investor-relations listing before trading for dividend eligibility.

Microsoft dividend amounts by fiscal year
Microsoft’s fiscal year ends on June 30. The table below separates completed fiscal-year totals from the fiscal-2026 annualized rate, which is based on four $0.91 declarations.

Microsoft’s FY2025 annual report lists all four fiscal-2025 dividends at $0.83 per share, for a completed $3.32 per-share total. Microsoft’s FY2026 Form 10-K reports four $0.91 declarations, producing a $3.64 annualized run rate. “Annualized” means the current quarterly rate multiplied by four; it is useful for comparing rates but is not automatically the same as the dividends actually paid or recognized in a fiscal year.
How fast has the dividend grown?
Fiscal 2024 to fiscal 2025
The quarterly payment rose from $0.75 to $0.83. On an annual per-share basis, that is an increase from $3.00 to $3.32. The calculation is ($3.32 − $3.00) ÷ $3.00, or approximately 10.7%.
Fiscal 2025 to the fiscal-2026 annualized rate
The quarterly declaration moved from $0.83 to $0.91. Multiplying each rate by four gives $3.32 and $3.64, respectively. The increase is ($3.64 − $3.32) ÷ $3.32, or approximately 9.6%. Because the $3.64 figure is annualized from declarations, describe it as a rate rather than a completed FY2026 historical total.

The longer increase record
Microsoft’s FY2025 investor presentation identifies 17 consecutive years of dividend increases. That streak is evidence of a sustained pattern of annual raises through that presentation, not a promise that every future year will bring an increase. It also does not mean the payment rises every quarter; Microsoft can hold a quarterly amount steady for four payments and then raise it for the next fiscal period.
Why the annual total and the quarterly amount both matter
Investors often quote a quarterly figure because it is the amount attached to each declaration. The annual figure is easier to use when comparing income from different investments. For example, an investor owning 100 Microsoft shares would have an indicated annual cash amount of $332 at the FY2025 rate ($3.32 multiplied by 100), before taxes and assuming all four payments occur at that rate. At the $0.91 quarterly rate, the annualized indication would be $364 for 100 shares. These are per-share arithmetic illustrations, not forecasts of a guaranteed payment.
Share ownership is measured on the relevant record date, and a purchase made near an ex-dividend date can affect which party receives a particular payment. Investors should use the announced dates for the specific quarter rather than infer eligibility from a calendar shortcut.
Dividend dollars paid or declared by Microsoft
Per-share growth tells you what one share receives. Company-wide dividend dollars show the scale of Microsoft’s distributions, but the accounting language matters.

These figures should not be casually described as identical measures of cash paid. The FY2025 report records dividends for that year, while the FY2026 filing reports dividends declared. Declaration, payment and accounting-recognition dates can fall in different periods. A company-wide dollar figure can also change because the number of shares outstanding changes, even when the per-share rate does not.
Does a higher dividend mean a higher yield?
No. Dividend yield depends on both the annualized dividend and the market price of the shares. The basic calculation is annualized dividend per share divided by the current share price, multiplied by 100. Microsoft’s move to a $3.64 annualized rate raises the numerator, but a rising share price can offset that effect and produce a lower yield. A falling share price can produce a higher yield even when the dividend has not changed.
This article does not state a current Microsoft yield because a yield requires a contemporaneous market price and a defined trading time. When comparing yields, use the same price timestamp and clarify whether the dividend is a declared rate, a trailing paid total or an analyst estimate. Do not compare Microsoft’s annualized rate with another company’s completed-year payout without aligning those definitions.

No. Microsoft states that it intends to continue returning capital to shareholders through dividends, subject to declaration by its board of directors. The qualification is important: the board controls each declaration, and future payments can be changed, delayed or omitted. The 17-year increase streak describes past policy, not a contractual obligation.

A responsible assessment of sustainability normally examines earnings, free cash flow, debt, investment needs and the payout ratio. The cited Microsoft filings establish the dividend amounts and company-wide dividend figures summarized above, but the material available for this article does not provide a current payout-ratio calculation or a complete earnings-and-cash-flow analysis. Therefore, the increase history alone should not be presented as proof that a particular future rate is secure.
How to check Microsoft’s next dividend
- Open Microsoft’s investor-relations website and select the dividend or historical-dividend information.
- Read the latest board declaration, including the per-share amount and the record, ex-dividend and payable dates.
- Check your broker’s position and settlement details if you are buying close to the ex-dividend date.
- Confirm that you own the common shares on the terms specified for that declaration.
- After the payable date, verify the cash entry in your brokerage account and compare it with the per-share amount multiplied by your eligible shares.
The investor-relations page is also the best way to resolve a date question such as “When is Microsoft’s next ex-dividend date?” A historical table cannot provide a reliable future date, and fiscal-year labels should not be mistaken for payment dates.

A useful comparison uses matching definitions instead of looking only at a headline yield. Evaluate these dimensions:
- Quarterly payment: Compare the declared cash amount per share and whether it is a regular dividend or a special distribution.
- Annual per-share growth: Use completed fiscal-year totals, or clearly label an annualized current rate.
- Consistency: Count the years of increases and look for reductions, pauses or irregular payments.
- Total dividends declared: Check whether the company-wide figure is declared, paid or recognized in the accounts.
- Sustainability: Review payout relative to earnings and cash flow, plus debt and capital requirements.
- Current yield: Calculate both investments with prices from the same time and the same dividend definition.
On the evidence summarized here, Microsoft can be described precisely as a quarterly dividend payer with $3.00 per share in FY2024, $3.32 in FY2025, and a $3.64 annualized rate from four FY2026 declarations. A broader claim about being the highest-yielding, safest or most sustainable choice would require current market prices and additional financial measures.

Common points of confusion
“Quarterly” does not mean four different amounts
Microsoft paid the same amount in each quarter of the fiscal years shown: $0.75 in FY2024, $0.83 in FY2025 and $0.91 in the FY2026 declarations. The frequency is quarterly; the board can set one rate for all four payments in a period.
Annualized is not the same as paid
Multiplying $0.91 by four produces $3.64, but that calculation assumes four payments at that rate and does not replace the accounting total in a completed annual report. Use “annualized” whenever the fiscal-year payment record is not yet established.
A declaration is not the same as cash received
The declaration creates the announced obligation subject to the stated terms. Cash reaches investors on the payable date, and the company’s financial statements may recognize dividends in a period that differs from the date an investor sees the deposit.

A rising dividend is not automatically a rising return
The cash amount per share can rise while the investor’s yield changes in either direction because the share price moves independently. Total return also includes share-price gains or losses, not just dividends.
