Yes. Apple Pay launched in India on 30 September 2026. At launch, eligible Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards can be used for contactless purchases in stores and for payments in supported apps and on the web. Whether it works for you depends on your exact card, the merchant’s checkout options, and whether your device meets Apple’s requirements.

Which cards work with Apple Pay in India?

Apple’s India issuer list names Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. That is the published eligibility scope at launch; it does not establish support for Axis debit or prepaid cards, RuPay cards, or cards from other Indian banks. Apple cautions that some card types may not be supported, so confirm your specific card with Axis Bank before relying on it. Apple says it will update its list as more banks are added.

Apple announced the launch on 30 September 2026, describing purchases in stores, apps, and on the web. Its general country-support page may not yet reflect the India launch; the dated India announcement and India issuer list are the relevant sources for the launch status.

Can you use Apple Pay in stores and online in India?

In-store contactless payments

Use Apple Pay at a participating store with a compatible contactless payment terminal. Apple’s launch announcement names Apple Store locations, Blinkit, Chaayos, Comet, Croma, Interflora, Ixigo, Le15 Patisserie, Reliance brands, Tata 1mg, and Zomato as examples of merchants. A brand being named is not a guarantee that every outlet or payment terminal accepts Apple Pay; look for the contactless symbol and check with the store if uncertain.

Apple says it worked with payment service providers including Cashfree, JusPay, Mswipe, Paytm, PayU, Pine Labs, Razorpay, and Worldline to support merchant networks. Their involvement does not mean every merchant using one of those providers accepts Apple Pay. In-store use is contactless card payment, not evidence of UPI or QR-code support.

Payments in apps and on the web

Apple says Apple Pay can be used in supported apps and on the web, and its launch announcement includes digital merchants and apps. At checkout, look for the Apple Pay option; do not assume it is available on every app or website, even when the business accepts Apple Pay in a physical store.

Can you use Apple Pay in India while travelling?

Apple’s India guidance says Apple Pay works internationally in countries and regions that support contactless payments. A visitor may be able to use a foreign-issued card at a participating Indian contactless terminal if the card is set up in Apple Pay and the issuer permits the transaction. This is not a guarantee for every foreign card or merchant. Confirm eligibility and international-use rules with the card issuer, and ask about overseas transaction fees before travelling.

Fees and privacy

Apple says it does not charge a fee for Apple Pay purchases. Your card issuer may still apply its usual charges, including any applicable foreign-use fees. Apple also says the actual card number is not stored on Apple servers or shared with merchants.
