A valid Ed25519 signature verifies that a particular message matches a signature made with the private key corresponding to a particular public key. If the signed message is the complete test-result file, that supports a claim that those exact bytes have not changed since signing. It does not prove the test passed, was run correctly, or was signed by the person or organization named on the report.
What a valid Ed25519 signature establishes
Ed25519 verification checks a mathematical relationship among a signature, a message, and a public key. When verification succeeds, the verifier has established that the supplied message is the one for which a valid signature was produced under the corresponding private key, assuming the key and signing system have not been compromised. The IRTF’s RFC 8032 specifies EdDSA, including Ed25519.
In practical terms, if a test report’s exact file bytes were signed, changing those bytes should make verification fail. This is evidence of integrity relative to that key—not an independent assessment of the report’s contents.

- That the result is true or correct. A signature does not show that the test was well designed, used valid inputs, ran against the claimed system, or was interpreted correctly. A signing service can faithfully sign an incorrect result.
- That the test environment was trustworthy. The signature does not rule out tampering before signing, a compromised test harness, or a faulty process.
- Who controlled the key. Verification identifies a public key, not the person, laboratory, or organization behind it. A trusted, separately verified binding between the key and a named identity is needed to make that attribution.
- When the signature was made. Ed25519 signatures do not inherently include a trusted timestamp or prove that the signed data existed at a particular historical time.
Check exactly what was signed
The scope of the claim depends on the signed object. Signing the complete report protects those exact bytes. Signing only a digest, selected fields, or a particular serialized representation protects only that object; it does not automatically cover omitted content or other versions of the report. The verifier needs to know the expected encoding and the precise verification procedure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Container formats can define how content and signed attributes are represented and verified. For example, RFC 8419 specifies conventions for using EdDSA in CMS. A successful check should therefore be read as: “this verified message matches this signature and public key,” not as a blanket guarantee about every item displayed alongside it.
Establish whether the key belongs to the claimed signer
To connect a verified public key to a named signer, check the trust mechanism used by the report’s workflow—for example, the certificate or other authenticated key record and the basis for trusting it. RFC 8410 describes X.509 support for Ed25519 and related algorithms. Certificate key-usage fields describe permitted uses; they do not certify that a test procedure was sound.

Attribution also depends on key custody and signing-system controls. RFC 8419 warns that compromise of an EdDSA private key may enable forged signatures. A verifier assessing a consequential report should consider whether the key was protected, whether relevant revocation or status information is available, and whether the signing system itself can be trusted.
Interpret Ed25519’s technical details in context
RFC 8032 specifies Ed25519 public keys as 32 bytes and signatures as 64 bytes, and states a nominal strength of 128 bits for Ed25519. These describe the cryptographic scheme; they are not measures of report accuracy or of the security of the entire workflow. RFC 8032 is an Informational RFC, published by the IRTF in January 2017.

The same RFC distinguishes PureEdDSA from the prehashed Ed25519ph variant. A format may hash content as part of its container conventions without using the Ed25519ph signing operation. For instance, RFC 8419’s CMS conventions specify SHA-512 as the message digest used with Ed25519. Do not infer the signing variant merely from the fact that a digest appears in the workflow.

A valid signature at the time of checking may not be enough to support a historical claim years later. Certificates can become invalid and algorithms can weaken; RFC 4998 describes trusted timestamps and renewal mechanisms as ways to help preserve evidence that signed data existed before such changes. It gives archives lasting 30 years or more as an example scenario, not a universal retention rule. A durable verification record should preserve the signed data, the relevant key and certificate information, and timestamp or archival evidence required by the applicable process.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For a test report, the useful conclusion is therefore narrow: verification supports integrity of the signed object relative to a public key. Identity, sound execution, correctness, and durable proof of time each require evidence beyond the Ed25519 signature itself.
