Check your TV’s exact model number and AirPlay settings before assuming it can receive a stream.
Which older Samsung TVs support AirPlay?
Samsung’s UK support guide says AirPlay is available on “specific Samsung TVs and monitors produced from 2018 onwards.” Its list includes 2018 Frame, QLED 4K, 4K UHD and N5300 Smart Full HDTV families, as well as models from later years. That does not mean every TV from 2018—or every regional variant—supports it. See Samsung UK’s model list and AirPlay instructions.
Samsung’s US guide summarizes support as applying to Smart TVs released since 2018, while cautioning that specifications vary by model and the interface may differ by region. Treat the year as a starting point, not a guarantee; check Samsung US’s AirPlay connection guidance and the compatibility information for the TV’s sales region.
Why 2018 models need particular checking
Samsung’s 2019 rollout announcement said all 2019 Smart TV models and select 2018 models would receive AirPlay 2 support. Some 2018 sets gained the feature through a firmware update, but an update did not add AirPlay to every 2018 TV, let alone older sets. The rollout details are in Samsung’s 2019 announcement.

Regional model lists can also differ. For example, Samsung’s German support information identifies particular 2018 QLED, Frame and NU models and notes exceptions among NU7099 and some NU7199 sizes. Do not apply another country’s list to your set without checking its complete model number against Samsung’s regional information.
How to check whether your Samsung TV has AirPlay
- Find the full model number. Check the TV’s product label or its on-screen support or about information. Record the full code, including suffixes; a broad family name or model year may not distinguish supported regional variants.
- Check Samsung’s support information for your region. Compare the exact model against the relevant model list. Samsung’s lists are model-specific, so do not infer compatibility from “Smart TV” alone.
- Look in the TV’s settings for Apple AirPlay settings. The menu path and wording vary by generation and region. If the setting is missing, check the TV’s software information and regional compatibility listing before concluding it is unsupported. Samsung’s UK instructions and US instructions describe the feature and connection process.
How to use AirPlay on a compatible Samsung TV
On a compatible set, enable AirPlay in the TV’s settings if necessary. Then use the AirPlay or screen-mirroring control on your Apple device and select the TV. Samsung describes streaming video, photos, music, podcasts and other content. The controls and requirements depend on the TV generation and Apple device; consult the instructions for both when troubleshooting.

What to do if your TV is not compatible
A separate HDMI-connected streaming device may provide an alternative if that specific device currently supports receiving AirPlay and your TV has a compatible, available HDMI input. Verify both details for the device and television before buying; AirPlay receiver support should not be assumed from a device’s brand or product category.
