Sometimes—but YouTube does not guarantee that a rerun will appear as a separate second VOD beside the video used as its source. YouTube can automatically archive a live broadcast that lasts less than 12 hours. After it ends, check the channel’s Live tab and the stream in YouTube Studio to confirm whether that particular rerun has an archive and whether it is visible.
What happens to a gaming rerun after the broadcast?
A rerun is a live broadcast; its post-stream replay or archive is the recording of that broadcast. YouTube says replays can appear as videos on a channel, but its guidance does not say that a rerun made from an already uploaded video will always create a separately listed second video alongside the original upload. The original source video and an archive of the new broadcast are distinct things, and the actual listing can depend on the broadcast and channel settings.
YouTube Help’s Archive live streams guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The page also says YouTube automatically archives 1440p and 2160p (4K) streams. The threshold is not a promise that every eligible stream will appear publicly as a separate VOD.
How to check whether the rerun has a separate VOD
- Check the channel’s Live tab. YouTube says highlights and replays may show up as videos on the channel. Look for the rerun’s title and broadcast time, and distinguish it from the original uploaded source.
- Check YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and select Content; review the stream’s listing and visibility. YouTube’s archive guidance says creators can change an archive’s visibility or delete it there.
- Confirm the broadcast duration. If the stream ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have been captured. For a shorter stream, automatic archiving is possible, but verify the result rather than assuming a separate public listing was created.
VOD archive, live DVR, and the original upload are different

YouTube’s archive guidance recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. That is a safeguard in case the platform does not capture a stream; it is not required to create an on-platform VOD.
