Yes—if the game is airing on a local broadcast station your antenna can receive. An antenna can bring in over-the-air channels such as a local ABC affiliate, but it will not provide games shown only on ESPN’s cable networks, conference networks, or streaming services. Check the network listed for the game and your local reception before deciding what you need.
Which college football games can an antenna receive?
An antenna receives local over-the-air television signals. If a college football game is scheduled on a local broadcast station—such as an ABC affiliate—and that station’s signal reaches your home, you may be able to watch the game without a pay-TV subscription. ABC’s 2026 schedule includes regular-season games and selected College Football Playoff games.
That does not mean every game on ABC’s schedule will be available to every household. You need both the right local station and usable reception at your location.
Which games will an antenna not pick up?
An antenna does not unlock subscription cable channels or streaming-only games. College football appears across broadcast networks, cable and conference networks, and streaming outlets. ESPN’s 2026–27 schedule lists games on ABC as well as ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN+, SEC Network+, ACCNX, and other outlets. ESPN also says hundreds of games are exclusive to the ESPN App through direct-to-consumer access or pay-TV authentication; an antenna alone cannot receive those streams.

The network can vary even within a conference. FOX Sports’ 2026 ACC guide lists games on ABC and The CW as well as ESPN, ACC Network, FOX, and FS1. A local broadcast station may be antenna-accessible; a cable channel or streaming outlet is not.
How to check whether you can watch a particular game
- Find the game’s current network. Check a current schedule or the broadcaster’s listing. Schedules can change, so confirm close to game day.
- If it is on a local broadcast network, check your address. Use the FCC’s Digital TV Reception Maps to see predicted signals for stations in your area.
- Compare the map’s assumptions with your setup. The FCC model assumes an outdoor antenna 30 feet above ground. It is an estimate, not a guarantee for an indoor antenna or a particular home.
- If the game is on a cable or streaming outlet, check a paid service’s lineup. Confirm that it carries the specific network in your market and that the game is included; do not assume one subscription covers every game.
What affects local antenna reception?
The FCC says actual signal strength may vary with building construction, nearby buildings and trees, weather, reception hardware, and terrain. Its map can help identify likely local signals, but reception inside a home can differ significantly from its outdoor-antenna model. The FCC’s over-the-air TV guidance says the suitable antenna may be indoor or outdoor depending on location.

For an over-the-air station, you need a suitable antenna connected to a digital television or a converter box. Whether an indoor antenna is enough depends on the station’s signal and conditions at your home; without a location and setup, reception for a particular household cannot be predicted.

An antenna is useful for local broadcast games when reception permits. It is not an all-games solution: games assigned to subscription networks or streaming-only outlets require access through a service that carries the relevant channel or stream. The practical answer depends on the games you want to watch, not simply on whether you own an antenna.
