Yes. You need to own Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to use its Avatar Legends Pack; the DLC is not a standalone game. Nintendo’s US listing explicitly says the game is required and sold separately.
What you need to play the Avatar Legends Pack
Buy or otherwise own Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the platform where you plan to play, then obtain the Avatar Legends Pack for that platform when it is available there. Nintendo’s US DLC listing states: “Software required to use (sold separately): Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.” The pack adds content to the game; it does not include the base game.
Ways to get the Avatar content
| Option | What it includes | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Avatar Legends Pack | The collaboration content listed by SEGA: Aang and Katara as racers, the Gliding Air machine, and Lion Turtle Island course. | For someone who already owns the base game and wants this collaboration content. |
| Season Pass | SEGA lists the Avatar Legends Pack as Wave 6 of the Season Pass DLC. The pass also covers its other DLC waves; the cited guide does not detail every wave here. | For someone who wants the Season Pass’s DLC rather than only the Avatar pack. SEGA says the Season Pass and collaboration DLC will also be available for separate purchase. |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | SEGA describes this edition as including the base game and Season Pass. | For someone who owns neither the game nor the Season Pass, subject to availability for their platform and region. |
| Standard Edition | The base game. | For someone who needs the required game but plans to choose DLC separately. |
These edition and DLC descriptions come from SEGA’s official purchase guide. The guide says DLC contents and release dates may change, so check the relevant platform storefront for the current lineup, release status, and whether the pack can be purchased separately.
Check platform and edition before buying
SEGA announced the game for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Its launch announcements give September 25, 2025, for console and Switch versions, and September 26, 2025, for PC versions. Platform and regional storefront availability can differ; confirm that both the base game and the DLC are listed for the platform you use. The cited sources do not establish that a purchase or license transfers between platforms.
