Does a published range mean the block self-adjusts?
No. The cited listings state which AWG sizes are permitted, but they do not document a feature that senses conductor diameter and automatically changes the clamping geometry. A range tells you what the specified product accepts under its stated conditions; it does not establish how the mechanism behaves with every conductor or whether different sizes can share a terminal position.
Do not treat “self-adjusting” or “fits any wire” as verified product features unless documentation for the exact model says so. The listings cited here do not establish universal mixed-gauge compatibility.

What to check before wiring a terminal block
- Exact part and wire range: Match the full model number to its permitted AWG range.
- Conductor type and preparation: Confirm whether the specification covers solid, stranded, or ferruled wire, and follow any stripping or ferrule instructions. AWG alone does not describe every relevant conductor property.
- Termination mechanism: Identify whether the block uses a screw, spring, or push-in termination; capacities and installation requirements are mechanism-specific.
- Fit and electrical ratings: Verify pitch, pole or position count, orientation, rated voltage and current, and compatibility with the PCB footprint or mating header.
- Installation details: Use the stated strip length and, for screw-clamp products, the specified tightening data where applicable.
Why wire type matters as well as AWG
Other terminal-block product specifications illustrate why a single AWG range is not the whole selection rule. B&R lists its 0TB710.92 push-in product for 26–16 AWG and gives separate cross-section limits for solid, fine-stranded, and ferruled conductors (B&R product page). TE Connectivity’s ENTRELEC information likewise separates capacities for flexible spring-clamp conductors and rigid stranded screw-clamp conductors (TE Connectivity product page). These examples are not RIA specifications; they show that conductor construction and termination design can affect what a product accepts.
Can two different wire gauges go in the same RIA block?
The cited RIA listings do not specify that different gauges may be mixed in one terminal position. Do not infer that capability from a range alone. Check the exact model’s documentation for any rules on multiple conductors per position, conductor type, and permitted combinations. If the documentation does not state that a combination is allowed, choose a terminal arrangement that provides an individually specified connection for each conductor.

Why a wider range does not make blocks interchangeable
The RIA166/03 listing’s 28–16 AWG range is wider than the 28–20 AWG range listed for the ASP0510606, but range is only one selection criterion. Their listed pole or position details differ, and pitch, orientation, footprint, ratings, termination method, and mating-header compatibility must also match the application. A wider AWG range by itself is not evidence that one part can replace another.
