No. A PS5 system update, playing a PS4 game on PS5, or owning a PS5 Pro does not automatically add improved graphics to every game. Visual changes depend on the specific game: its developer may release a patch, or Sony may provide features such as Game Boost or PS5 Pro enhancements for supported titles. Those benefits vary by game and may affect resolution, image quality, frame rate, or ray tracing—not necessarily all of them.
What “graphics update” can mean on PS5
Several different things are often described as a graphics update, but they work differently. A console software update is not the same as a game patch, and backward compatibility is not the same as a remaster. Sony’s PS5 Pro features also apply only to supported games, with specific benefits that vary by title.

Sony describes the PS5 Pro as supporting enhanced features in select games, not all games. Its current US product page says more than 8,500 PS4 games can be played on PS5 Pro while noting that a small number are incompatible; Sony’s support page separately describes the “overwhelming majority” of 4,000+ PS4 games as playable on PS5. These are different statements on Sony pages with different scope and context, not a guarantee that every title works or receives a visual upgrade. Does PS5 make PS4 games look better?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Sony says select PS4 games may benefit from Game Boost, which may make them run at a higher or smoother frame rate. That is a possible performance benefit, not a promise of higher resolution, new visual effects, or a remastered version. PS5 Pro’s optional image-quality setting for PS4 games
PS5 Pro has a separate setting called Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games. Sony specifies that it is limited to CFI-7000 model-group consoles and requires a display that supports 2160p or 1440p at 60Hz. Which PS5 games are PS5 Pro enhanced?
Only supported titles can use PS5 Pro-specific game enhancements, and the exact feature set differs by game. A title might use ray tracing, PSSR, a higher resolution, or a more consistent frame rate; a change in one area does not mean every visual or performance characteristic improves.

Sony’s November 2024 launch announcement named more than 50 enhanced games available for the PS5 Pro launch on November 7, 2024. That is a historical launch count, not a current complete list. PSSR support is title-specific
PSSR is Sony’s image-upscaling feature for supported games, not a system-wide graphics patch. In its March 16, 2026 announcement, Sony said upgraded PSSR was rolling out to supported titles including Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Crimson Desert. The announcement also said Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 would receive patches in the coming weeks; that timing does not establish their current support status. Game-specific updates can differ substantially
A publisher’s patch may change only one game and may target particular aspects of its presentation or performance. For example, CD Projekt Red’s April 7, 2026 PlayStation Blog article described a PS5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077 that would be available the next day and outlined 4K visuals, advanced ray tracing, and performance changes. How to check for a PS5 game update
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game you want to check.
- Press the Options button on the controller.
- Select Check for Update. If a newer version is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it.
Sony also says that starting a game or application updates it to the newest available version when an update is available. A completed check only tells you whether an update is available; it does not mean the game has received a graphics upgrade. Sony’s instructions for checking game and system software updates.

- Confirm the title is supported. Check Sony’s current PS5 Pro information or the PlayStation Store’s PS5 Pro Enhanced collection rather than relying on an old launch list.
- Install the game’s available update. A supported feature may depend on a title-specific patch. Use Options > Check for Update on the game tile.
- Identify which feature is meant to change. Resolution, upscaling, ray tracing, and frame rate are distinct. A game can improve in one area without changing the others.
- Check the console and display for the PS4 image-quality option. The Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games setting applies only to the CFI-7000 model group and requires a display supporting 2160p or 1440p at 60Hz.
- Disable the optional PS4 image-quality setting if behavior is unexpected. Sony advises turning it off if problems occur.
