Yes. AirPods 5 have Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), plus Adaptive Audio and Transparency. But Apple’s comparison with AirPods Pro 3 is about noise cancellation—not sound quality: Apple says Pro 3 provide up to three times more ANC under a specified test standard. Apple’s published information does not establish which model sounds better in an independent listening comparison.
What noise-cancellation features do AirPods 5 have?
Apple lists Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and Conversation Awareness for AirPods 5. It also lists Voice Isolation, Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, and Adaptive EQ. Some capabilities require a compatible Apple device and current software; see Apple’s model comparison and AirPods 5 technical specifications for compatibility details.
Apple describes AirPods 5 as open-ear. ANC is therefore a feature of this model, but its presence alone does not establish how much outside sound a particular wearer will perceive as blocked.

Apple’s current comparison page says AirPods Pro 3 offer “up to 3x more Active Noise Cancellation compared with AirPods 5” when tested in accordance with IEC 60268-24. That is Apple’s stated comparison for ANC; it is not a rating of sound quality or a claim that the Pro sound three times better.

The models also differ in form factor: Apple describes AirPods 5 as open-ear and AirPods Pro 3 as in-ear. The comparison supports that distinction, but does not quantify a wearer’s fit or the isolation they will experience. For an explanation of its announcement, see Apple’s AirPods 5 Newsroom release.
What can be said about their sound?
Apple says AirPods 5 use a new multiport acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ intended to deliver richer, more detailed sound across a wider range of ear geometries. Apple also announced up to 50 percent more noise removed by AirPods 5 than AirPods 4 with ANC, attributing that comparison to the acoustic architecture and computational audio algorithms. Both are manufacturer claims, not independent listening results or guarantees for every listener.
