DMZ: Recon is Call of Duty: Mobile’s extraction-based PvPvE mode: deploy with a squad of up to three, gather loot or complete contracts, and reach an extraction point before the match ends to keep your progress. If you are new or returning, start with a modest loadout, pick a talent that suits your plan, avoid fights you do not need, and leave enough time to extract.
What happens in a DMZ: Recon match?
You deploy into a map with AI hostiles and the possibility of encountering other players. The goal is to loot, complete objectives, and successfully extract. Extracting preserves earned progress and loot; dying before extraction loses carried items, with the safe slot as an exception. Some mission objectives can still count after elimination if they do not require successful exfil. Read each objective’s wording carefully. The official DMZ: Recon 101 guide summarizes the risk-and-reward loop as: “Land, fight, loot, and extract to keep what you’ve earned. Die and lose it all.”
Which map should you choose?
The official 101 guide covers Serpent Island and Building 21. Choose based on the kind of run you want rather than assuming the same pace or exits on both maps.
Recommended Free Tools
| Map | Layout and pace | Good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Serpent Island | Large map with varied areas for exploration and looting | Players who want room to explore and progress |
| Building 21 | Compact indoor map with three floors and faster encounters | Players prepared for close-quarters action |
Use the Tac Map to plan a route and identify points of interest before deploying. The official guide recommends studying the interactive Serpent Island Tac Map as a lower-risk way to prepare.

What should you bring, and which talent fits?
Build a basic loadout
The official guide’s minimum starting loadout is a weapon, armor, a couple of stacks of Armor Plates, several stacks of ammunition, and a backpack. If you want a ready-made option, Quick Fill offers premade loadouts during the pre-battle phase.
Choose one active talent
Only one talent is active at a time, although the talent trees can be leveled separately. Pick the role that matches your intended run:

- BRING YOUR Call of Duty SKILLS TO GAME NIGHT! Like the best-selling Call of Duty video game, Call of Duty K/D Party Game is the ultimate battle of strategy. Use Loadout cards to down enemy operators, deflect dares to other players, and more!
- ARE YOU READY TO DROP? Down your enemies and make them perform hilarious dares! Capture dare tiles and assign them to opponents to collect K/D tokens. The player with the highest K/D token count wins. Sounds easy? Think again.
- DARE ZONE! Move your operator pawns around the map to capture dares before other players. From push up challenges, party rules, and blank dare tiles for you to fill in yourself, this board game will have your squad laughing all night long.
- COD GAMERS UNITE! Gather 3-5 friends and get ready to drop in. The Call of Duty: K/D Party Game is fun for any occasion – game night, parties, or just hanging out with friends.
- WHAT’S INCLUDED. 1 K/D Party Game board, 100 Loadout cards, 45 K/D tokens, 32 dare tiles, 15 pawns, 3 dice, 1 dry erase marker, and instruction manual. For ages 17+.
- Scavenger: emphasizes gathering information.
- Assaulter: favors aggressive combat and mobility.
- Medical: supports survival, smoke cover, and revives.
How should you handle combat, contracts, and loot?
Fight selectively
Combat is not technically required for success. Avoid engagements when the odds are poor, especially if you are under-geared. Use cover and move through the map in manageable sections with your squad instead of drawing unnecessary attention.

Take contracts with the clock in mind
Contracts can provide goals and income, but they take time. Examples in the official guide include hunting high-value targets (HVTs), finding intel, opening safes, and destroying Atlas Corp. materials. Check your route and preserve enough time to reach an exfil.

Loot carefully
Cash and valuables matter beyond the current run: extracted valuables can be sold to fund later Black Market purchases, while cash carried by your Operator can be required for a Payment Exfil. Safes and vaults can be risky; larger safes sound an alarm that may attract attention, and AI may guard valuable loot. Complete the lock-picking minigame quickly.
Prepare for bosses
The 101 guide names Kui Ji and The Tank on Serpent Island. Keep distance when fighting Kui Ji. Against The Tank, bring ammunition and use distance and cover.

How do exfils work?
Plan an exit before radiation begins closing routes. Calling or reaching an exfil does not make the surrounding area safe: hostiles and other players may attack while you wait for extraction. Serpent Island has several exit types; Building 21 has its own Elevator Exfil.

|---|---|---|
| Normal | Serpent Island | A timed exit; stay alert while the extraction completes. |
| Random | Serpent Island | Works similarly to a Normal Exfil, but may appear in an unexpected location. |
| Payment | Serpent Island | Requires cash carried by the Operator. |
| Boat | Serpent Island | Activate a terminal, then reach the exit before the timer ends. |
| Train | Serpent Island | Interact at the station and board the arriving train. |
| Elevator | Building 21 | Call the elevator and defend the location during the countdown. |
Radiation can remove exfil options, so do not wait until your route is cut off. On Serpent Island, ordinary and Random Exfils are comparatively direct timed exits; Boat and Train Exfils add steps and time. Building 21’s Elevator Exfil requires holding the area through a countdown.

Are Rebirth Island’s mechanics the same?
No. A separate official Rebirth Island guide describes mechanics specific to that map: radiation closes inward from the shoreline until only the Prison remains, and a special Prison exfil involves using a terminal, reaching the roof, defeating Nikto, and taking the roof exit. Those details should not be treated as universal instructions for Serpent Island or Building 21.
What to do on your first deployment
- Before the match: bring a weapon, armor, Armor Plates, ammunition, and a backpack, or use Quick Fill. Choose one active talent for your role and review your route on the Tac Map.
- After landing: move with your squad, use cover, and avoid a fight that offers little advantage. Collect loot or take a contract only if it fits your route and remaining time.
- As the match progresses: keep track of the timer and radiation, and select an exit while options remain. Account for any extra steps required by Boat, Train, Payment, or Elevator Exfil.
- At extraction: expect exposure until the process finishes. Protect the area, watch for AI and other players, and confirm whether your mission requires a successful exfil for its progress to count.
Game maps and mechanics can change with updates; the cited official 101 guide is dated December 8, 2025, and the mode information here is current through October 7, 2026.
