If DJI Assistant 2 does not detect your controller or aircraft, first confirm that you installed the Assistant 2 edition for that exact product. Then check that the device is powered on, try a known-good USB data cable and another computer port, and—on Windows—look for driver errors in Device Manager. The right steps depend on whether you have a remote controller, an aircraft, or a dedicated flight controller.

Identify your device and the right Assistant 2 edition

DJI Assistant 2 is a family of product-specific packages, not one universal installer. Note the exact model printed on the aircraft or controller, then use DJI’s Consumer Drones Series download page or the relevant product support page to check which edition supports it. DJI’s firmware instructions put it plainly: “Different aircraft use different versions of DJI Assistant 2.” DJI’s Smart Controller download page, for example, identifies Assistant 2 for Mavic; do not assume that package is correct for every controller or aircraft.

Software listings can change. As listed on October 7, 2026, DJI’s Consumer Drones Series page showed version 2.1.42, with release notes dated September 22, 2026. The Smart Controller page listed Assistant 2 for Mavic 2.0.14, dated August 5, 2020, and stated it was not compatible with macOS 11 or later. That is a legacy product page, so check the support page for your own model and operating system rather than applying its compatibility statement to other DJI products.

Work through the connection checks

  1. Power on the device. Unless the instructions for your model say otherwise, turn on the aircraft or controller before connecting it to the computer.
  2. Check the cable and USB port. Use a known-good cable that supports data, not just charging, and try another USB port on the computer. DJI recommends checking or replacing the USB cable when a device is not recognized. Connector types vary by product, so match any replacement cable to the specific device’s port and data needs.
  3. Open the matching Assistant 2 edition. After connecting the powered-on device, launch the package for that product. For the camera-drone firmware workflow DJI describes, sign in, select the device under Connected Devices, and choose Upgrade. If the device never appears, do not proceed as if it has been detected.
  4. On Windows, inspect Device Manager. Check whether the connected DJI device or its driver shows an error. DJI says Assistant 2 installs its latest DJI driver; confirm you installed the product-compatible edition. If antivirus software interfered with installation, DJI’s troubleshooting guidance recommends reinstalling Assistant 2.
  5. Try another computer if available. A second computer can help distinguish a problem with the original computer’s port, driver, or software setup from a device-side issue.

These checks reflect DJI’s Assistant 2 troubleshooting guidance and its firmware connection instructions. Do not download a manual driver file from an unrelated source; use current, model- and operating-system-specific DJI instructions.

Use guidance for the kind of controller you have

Remote controller

For a DJI remote controller, start with the exact model’s support page to determine the required Assistant 2 edition and connection procedure. Do not assume that guidance for an aircraft or an older dedicated flight controller applies to a modern remote controller.

Aircraft

For a camera drone, DJI’s described firmware sequence is to power on the aircraft, connect it to the computer over USB, open the appropriate Assistant 2 edition, sign in, select the aircraft under Connected Devices, and choose Upgrade. The required software branch depends on the aircraft model.

Legacy A3 flight controller

DJI’s A3 FAQ calls for confirming that the driver and Assistant software installed successfully, checking the cable and controller power, and trying another cable or computer port. For A3 communication upgrades specifically, DJI identifies the USB port on the LED module. This is A3-specific guidance, not a general connection rule for other DJI controllers.

When to contact DJI Support

If the correct Assistant 2 edition, device power, data cable, computer port, and—on Windows—driver status have all been checked and the device still does not appear, contact DJI Support with the exact device model, computer operating system, Assistant 2 edition and version, and the checks you have already tried. Those details help support narrow down whether the remaining issue is software, the computer connection, or the device itself.
