Samsung’s official support material does not document a switch that turns off the USB connection notification itself. What it does document is how to change the USB connection mode that the notification controls. On some Galaxy models, a Samsung Members community reply also describes adjusting USB-related notification categories. That route is not an official Samsung instruction, and it may not exist on your phone. Below are the official steps, the community-reported route with its limits, and the trade-offs to weigh before you change anything.
Why the USB notification appears
When you connect a Galaxy phone to a computer, charger, car, or accessory, Samsung shows a USB notification. According to Samsung’s US support instructions, beginning with One UI 8.0 the default USB connection mode is “Charging phone only.” That means the phone charges but does not expose files or Android Auto until you pick another mode. The notification is therefore a mode selector first and an alert second, which is why simply hiding it is not the same as changing how the phone connects.
Change the USB mode (official Samsung steps)
These steps are from Samsung’s US USB instructions, which describe One UI 8.0 behavior. Labels can differ by model and software version.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick panel.
- Tap the “USB for charging phone” notification.
- Tap it again to display the other USB options.
- Select the mode you need, such as “Transferring files / Android Auto.”
These steps control what the USB connection does. They do not remove the notification from the notification shade.

Fix a PC file-transfer problem first
If the goal is to get a computer to see the phone, Samsung’s Singapore troubleshooting guidance for PC file transfer starts with the cable and mode rather than the alert:
- Connect the phone with a compatible USB data cable. A cable that only charges will not transfer files.
- Open the notification panel and tap the USB settings notification.
- Select “Transferring files / Android Auto.”
Samsung warns that features, menu names, and paths may vary by device model, software, and app version. If the phone still does not connect, change the cable before you change any notification setting. Samsung’s page does not say a different cable will stop notifications.

Try to reduce USB alerts (community-reported route)
A Samsung Members community reply dated 24 February 2025 describes a route that may let you adjust USB alert categories on some devices. It is community advice, not an official Samsung procedure, and it has not been confirmed for every Galaxy model or One UI version.
- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Tap the menu option to show system apps. Its exact wording varies.
- Open Android System or USB Settings, depending on what your phone lists.
- Tap Notifications, then find the USB-related categories and adjust them.
If you do not see Android System or USB Settings, or you do not see USB-related categories, your phone does not expose this route. Do not try workarounds that are not from Samsung. Check your model’s manual or Samsung Support for your exact software version instead.

Check the trade-offs before changing anything
- Android Auto and PC file transfer depend on the “Transferring files / Android Auto” mode. Changing the notification categories does not replace that mode.
- Samsung also describes USB connections for tethering. Choose the mode that matches the function you need.
- Muting USB alert categories can hide notices you may want, such as a prompt to change the connection mode after you plug in a new cable or computer.
- Menu names and paths change between models and software releases, so a route that worked on one phone may not appear on another.
If the notification comes with connection problems
- Try a different compatible USB data cable and a different port on the computer.
- Reselect the USB mode from the notification, following the steps above.
- If the phone connects but features still fail, confirm the mode matches the feature you want, since charging-only mode blocks data transfer.
- If the connection works after you choose a mode, you can leave the default notification in place; there is no official need to hide it.
Samsung’s official guidance was checked in October 2026. Because menus vary, confirm each label on your own phone before you rely on it.
