The Dimensity 7400X is a small step up from the Dimensity 7300X. On MediaTek’s published specifications, the main difference is a higher maximum clock on the Cortex-A78 performance cores (2.6 GHz versus 2.5 GHz). The rest of the platform is largely the same. Phone benchmarks from the 2025 Motorola Razr, which uses the 7400X, show gains of only a few percent in CPU tests over the 2024 Razr with the 7300X. Those gains are real but modest, and they come from whole phones, not from the chips alone.
What the official specifications say
MediaTek’s product pages for the Dimensity 7400X and the Dimensity 7300X describe two octa-core chips built on the same general design: four Cortex-A78 performance cores and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, with Mali-G615-family graphics. Both are listed as 4 nm-class parts. The table below sets out the values each page states, with notes on where the pages differ or say nothing.
| Area | Dimensity 7400X | Dimensity 7300X | What the difference means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Process | 4 nm | 4 nm-class | Both are presented in the same process class. A node label alone does not show a real-world efficiency gap. |
| CPU | 4× Cortex-A78 up to 2.6 GHz, plus 4× Cortex-A55 | 4× Cortex-A78 up to 2.5 GHz, plus 4× Cortex-A55 | The only CPU difference on the spec sheet is a 100 MHz higher maximum A78 clock. |
| GPU | Arm Mali-G615 MC2 | Arm Mali-G615; MC count not stated on the page reviewed | The same GPU family is listed. The 7300X page does not give a matching core count, so the exact GPU configuration cannot be confirmed as identical. |
| Memory | LPDDR4x or LPDDR5; up to 6400 Mbps listed | LPDDR4x or LPDDR5; maximum data rate not stated on the page reviewed | The chip supports both memory types. The phone maker decides which one ships. |
| Storage | UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1 | UFS 3.1 | The 7400X page allows the older UFS 2.2 standard. Check the phone’s own storage spec. |
| Display | Up to WFHD+ at 120 Hz or FHD+ at 144 Hz | WFHD+ at 120 Hz or FHD+ at 144 Hz | The listed maximums are the same, so the display limits do not separate the two chips. |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G features; peak downlink 3.27 Gbps listed | Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4; peak downlink 3.27 Gbps listed; 5G entry not stated on the page reviewed | Real-world signal and speed depend on antennas, modem implementation, carrier bands, and network conditions. |
Two points deserve emphasis. First, the memory and storage rows describe what each chip supports, not what a given phone uses. Second, the GPU row cannot support a claim that the two chips are identical in every graphics detail.
Which differences matter in practice
For most buyers, the 100 MHz clock difference is the only spec change that could affect performance on the same phone design. A roughly 4% higher peak clock on the performance cores is a modest change. It will not change how the phone feels in everyday use unless the rest of the system is also different.

The memory and storage rows matter more for the phone you actually buy. A 7400X phone with LPDDR4X and UFS 2.2 will behave differently from one with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, even though the chip supports both. Those choices are made by the phone manufacturer and are usually listed in the phone’s specifications.
What the handset benchmarks show
Tom’s Guide compared the 2025 Motorola Razr (Dimensity 7400X) with the 2024 Razr (Dimensity 7300X) in its 2025 review. Its reported results are:
- Geekbench single-core: 1089 for the 2025 Razr versus 1055 for the 2024 Razr.
- Geekbench multicore: 3075 versus 2999.
- 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited: 22.2 FPS versus 19 FPS.
Tom’s Guide described the CPU gain as about 3% in both Geekbench tests and called the overall improvement over the earlier Razr marginal. The percentages below are simple arithmetic from the reported scores. They are not separate measurements:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Single-core: about 3.2% higher.
- Multicore: about 2.5% higher.
- 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited: about 17% higher.
These numbers compare two complete phones from different years. Cooling, firmware, memory configuration, software, and other design choices can all move scores. The results show what a buyer might see when moving from one Razr to the next. They do not isolate the chipset as the only cause. No independent chip-only test of the two processors in an identical system was found in the sources reviewed for this article.
Treating MediaTek’s performance claim as a claim
MediaTek states that the Dimensity 7400X improves performance by over 10% compared with the previous generation, and it also cites AI and NPU gains. These are the company’s own figures, and the product page does not give the full test setup needed to reproduce them. Read them as MediaTek’s stated comparison. They are not independent results. The handset results above, which show smaller CPU gains, are a useful counterpoint, especially because the phone-level tests and the vendor claim measure different things.

How to check a specific phone
A chip name tells you what the processor can do, not what a phone contains. Before comparing two phones with these chips, check the following on the manufacturer’s specification page:
- Find the exact RAM type and capacity. Look for LPDDR4X or LPDDR5 and the GB figure.
- Find the storage standard and capacity. Look for UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1.
- Confirm the exact model name and region, since the same brand can sell different versions under similar names.
- Check the supported cellular bands for your carrier, especially for 5G.
- Look at the benchmark method. A Geekbench or 3DMark score is only comparable with another score from the same app version and test settings.
Example: the Motorola razr 60
Motorola’s official razr 60 specification page names the Dimensity 7400X and lists 8 GB LPDDR4X with 256 GB UFS 2.2 in its documented configuration. That is a real example of a 7400X phone. It also shows why the chip page is not enough. The chip supports LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, but this phone’s listed memory and storage follow a different, more conservative choice. Market configurations and retail availability can change, so check the exact model and configuration sold in your region before buying.
The bottom line for the comparison is simple. Choose on the phone’s full specification, camera, display, battery, software support, and price. The 7400X’s advantage over the 7300X is real but small on the published CPU numbers and in the handset tests available.
One thing to note about earlier claims: the Geekbench and 3DMark numbers come from a single reviewer’s testing on two specific phones. Other reviewers may see different gaps, so treat these percentages as indicative rather than definitive.
