A “digital lab printer” is not one standardized kind of printer. The phrase can refer to a textile development printer used to test printing or coating applications, or to photographic minilab equipment that turns digital images into prints. The intended context determines what the term means.
What does “digital lab printer” mean?
In textile manufacturing, ZIMMER AUSTRIA uses the term for its CHROMOJET Table Top, a compact development machine for exploring new digital printing and coating applications, processes, and recipes. The company described the printer as using its CHROMOJET jet-nozzle technology in an interview about its Kufstein Technology Centre. ZIMMER AUSTRIA’s interview reflects the product context around 2016 and does not establish whether the model is currently available.
A 2015 textile trade article likewise described the CHROMOJET Tabletop as a small development printer for textile printing and coating, identifying its technology as CHROMOJET valve-jet. The Textile Magazine’s coverage is historical reporting, not a current specification sheet.

Why the phrase can also mean a photographic printer
In photographic photofinishing, “digital minilab printer” refers to equipment in a different category: systems that accept digital images and produce photographic prints. A patent describes that use and names historical examples including Fuji Frontier, Noritsu, Kodak Digital Lab System, and Agfa D-Lab. US patent US20040252327A1 documents this historical terminology; it does not establish which models are currently sold or supported.

These meanings describe machines for different jobs. A textile application-development printer is not an alternative to a photographic minilab printer, and neither source supports treating the unqualified phrase as a single universal product class.
How to tell which kind is meant
- Textile printing or coating: Look for references to substrates, application development, process recipes, coating, or jet-nozzle technology. In the cited manufacturer usage, the example is CHROMOJET Table Top.
- Photographic output: Look for references to digital images, photofinishing, minilabs, or photographic prints.
If you are evaluating equipment within either category, check the manufacturer’s current documentation for the intended materials, output scale, supported process or chemistry, workflow, and whether the machine is designed for development or production. The cited material does not provide a basis for current model rankings, prices, speed claims, or resolution comparisons.
